OK,

So I know that you can get upgrades for your ship, your squad and even individual crewmates, but i"m confused a little on weapons/armor.  Let's say I have purchased the 1/5 Shotgun upgrade that gives me 10% damage increase to shotguns.  Does that mean that every shotgun that I pick up or my crewmates use have this upgrade?  Same with armor, if I have armor that has +10% shields (not sure if that's real or not), does that mean that all of the armor that I have for my crew has the same upgrade?

would be nice to see that on the weapon description if that is the case...

The upgrades are across the entire squad, yes.

Shepard's +Shields from armor bonuses are different than the +Shields from research though. Shepard is the only one who benefits from his armor bonuses, while everyone benefits from research.
