I'm not sure what the trigger is for that fairly scary trip to the fortress all by his lonesome. I didn't have it this time through. I was marrying Alistair and neither one of us went anywhere except when we both went to build Duncan's monument together. Whew!/
He went to Duncans Tomb by himself in my game, I wonder if you need to offer to go with him earlier in the game (I thought I did)

I think I might try some other of the choices to see what happens too.
Didn't realise supporting the crown was to become chancellor. I just wanted to choose an option that didn't seem greedy or selfish. I thought hmmm...supporting the crown means helping you out Alistair as best as I can as I know you hate all this formal stuff.
Can't remember what I chose for the 2nd but I think it was to stay in Denerim? And he went off to the fort which I didn't like. So I think I'll see if helping the grey wardens makes him not go off.
I chose that one for the same reason on one playthrough, that's how I know.
I don't think choosing to go with the Grey Warden's makes a difference in terms of Alistair being summoned to the fortress, because I'm sure that I've had that happen when I did...or when we both did. Can't remember....

You can ask for a title and riches, and Alistair makes you the Teyrn/Teyrna of Gwaren... even if you're already the Queen. classic.
It's kind of interesting that Alistair can appear to be a little annoyed if his Queen asks to be Teyrna of Gwaren too, but Anora seems to think that it's apropriate to make her husband Teyrn of Gwaren, even if I would have thought those lands where technically her inheritance...
He doesn't seem to be annoyed to me -- he seems amused, actually. Funny how people interpret the same dialogs so differently!
