Until that point, game might force player too choose or game itself will randomly pick person who die during The Joining.

Ok, change of topic now.

Who do you actually want to have partake in the Joining?

Justice for me, because I want to see how Bioware can tie the Fade in with the Darkspawn, after stating numerous times that they aren't related - after the point when they were created, that is.

isnt justice already technically a grey warden?

the description says its just a fade spirit in the body of a dead grey warden.

not sure, it just wouldnt make much since to make a grey warden go through the ritual again

Yeah, Jusice is already physically a grey warden. He should have no need for the ritual. But If we are able to put characters through the joining, I'm hoping the success rate isn't 100% and that there's a way to manipulate it... like by way of approval rates.

As for me I'd put every last character through the joining, and if I can control the successes and failures Sigrun would be the only one I'd allow to die. She's the most expendable to my PC/story. He and Oghren go back, Anders will probably be one of his best buds, Nate'll be his rival-friend (or so I imagine it, if not he's just too stubborn to die), Mhairi is the token warrior fem, and Velanna can make trees walk. Sigrun? Eh, I'm sure she'll be cool but someone needs to die or the joining just becomes a tea party.

On that note, I wonder if it'd be set up such that SOMEONE has to die no matter what. Would be interesting.

Humm..so all of a sudden you kill off your new party members with the Joining Ritual? It would make more sense to me if there were "other applicants" other than the named companions we've had revealed to us thus far. The other applicants may be unsuitable in other ways, not just crash and burn at the Joining. Anyways, I don't know how Bioware has this set up..I assume it works for the purposes intended.

Sorry guys its been confirmed that when you start the joining process with a character, all your past saves get written over and you cant reload.

Woah, that would be the perfect way for BioWare to screw people over. Haha.

And I didn't know about this, makes sense though but never really gave it much thought. Sounds quite interesting stepping into Duncan's shoes... I'll definitely give it a lot of thought who I'd put through this and why.

Oghren won't die in the Joining. He drinks liquids more pungent than darkspawn blood daily, for his own amusement.

Mhairi seems a lot like Jory, so I would guess that she's not going to survive.

Justice is technically already a Grey Warden, I guess, inhabiting the body of a dead one, so would he even have to do it?

Velanna and Anders are mages, so I would expect their resistance to anything potently magical would be a bit higher.

I'm not sure about Sigrun. She seems to have the fortitude to survive it, but that might not mean anything. And I don't think we know enough about Nathaniel yet.

To be honest, though, I expect that who lives and who dies has to do with Loyalty. The higher the loyalty, the more likely they are to survive. I would be disappointed if no-one died, though, that would seem to fly in the face of the lore we've been given so far.

things are looking bad for mhairi... seriously there are three warriors already, so that makes her and the other two a bit more expendable, secondly she isn't a badass fade spirit or a returning "fan favorite" soooo.... yeah.

Damn it, I actually wanted Mhairi in my party.

I would hate for any of the advertised companions to die, there should be random recruit 1, 2, etc.

At least there's a load option.

I'm betting on 100% survival rate for party members who join the Grey Wardens and a variable survival rate for everyone else depending on who the PC recruits or drafts.

Alistair said at his joining only one died, so I think it's entirely possible for every main NPC to survive the process.

They might throw a few extra people into the joining just to die and the people you have as companions have no chance to die. Either way I think it is great that it is included. I just hope we get to conscript some people. If I don't get a good deal from Herren I am conscripting him.

Well, either way, if they survive the joining or not, you are condemning these people to death. I hope that will be addressed and perhaps even a "choice" to break tradition and tell them so first.

Mhairi seems like the easy choice to die because of the joining.
I only say this because she seems too eager to become a grey
warden, and would be the obvious choice or easiest to get to
go through with the process. i figure it's like easy come easy go.

I have to agree with you. The only person I see not surviving is Mhairi, But I hope she does because I like her even though we have only seen a little of her. I'll just save my game before I put anyone through the joining.

I think the idea of your actions in the game to that point affecting a successful joining is a fantastic idea. I don't like the idea of red shirts dying auto and companions surviving auto. Makes it an unimportant piece of the puzzle, like your own Joining.

The ultimate question is: do people plan on putting all of their party members through the Joining and risking their lives, protecting the lives of their favorite characters by not putting them through the ritual, or simply loading a previous save so that they don't lose anyone?

I plan on putting everyone through the Joining.

I doubt the developers have already slated who will die and live in the joining.

I think it could depend on your relationship factor with who you decide, the decisions you make in the game, and other things. If you make bad decisions, this might make them dislike you, and make them less motivated to fight darkspawn for you, therefore dying.

If they follow you, and they like your decisions, then they will live and become true Grey Wardens. You guys cant honestly think Bioware would pull a stunt where they know who is going to die or live. They will have some kind of mechanic that will be different for everyone I'm sure.

I was kinda thinking they would be put through the Joining. It makes sense. I'm sure Mhairi goes through it, as does Anders. It'll probably be a loyalty mission thing, like last time.

EDIT:  Did I say last time?  I meant ME2.  My bad.

Loyalty has absolutely no bearing on whether or not you can survive poison. I don't care how nice someone is to me, cyanide will still kill me.

It's that some will die if you put them through the Joining.
