Well I do not hide the fact that I play and enjoy video games, but I wouldn't call myself a "gamer", anymore than I would call myself a "televisor" because I watch TV.

I'll just quote. This is exactly what i was going to say

I'm a teacher and most of my coworkers have nothing but disdain for games. They think games are destroying the minds of their young students, blah blah. I kind of keep my gaming habits at a low profile. The teacher who has his class next to mine is also a gamer, so we kind of stick together at staff meetings and are always chatting in the morning about what we did in DA:O or ME2 the night before. It's pretty funny when we're having a conversation about screwing Miranda or blowing up such-and-such facility and then another teacher walks in the room. We both kind of just halt the conversation and act like nothing was going on.

I'm pretty much the same when it comes to my college and whatnot. However if I do come across someone who's into gaming then I'm usually quite open about my own gaming hobby. Thankfully I'm not in a type of industry where gaming is belittled, I'm studying Multimedia which is actually linked with the creative/art side of gaming so most of my classmates are either gaming enthusiasts or animation enthusiasts. And all very nice people(unfortunately the same can't be said about the teachers<_<)

fear and belittlement comes from ignorance or a true need for it, always

so i believe is someone belittles gamers, they simply don't know enough to know their error

This is what I mean, just so we're clear on the subject.

EDIT: Andarthiel, how in the hell does anyone in college not play video games? I know sociology girls who play Halo ffs.

Yeah, there are a bunch of gamers in college and university. The other day I saw a dude walking around campus with an Umbrella Corp. T-Shirt from Resident Evil 4. I complimented the awesome shirt.

I think being a gamer might make a guy somewhat less attractive to a woman. Similarly being into science fiction or role playing...

or a compulsive masturbator.

Best to keep it quiet until you've hooked them.

Incidentally, I'm three out of four of those things.

It was hard for me to beleive as well but there is a minority(in my class anyway) that actually have social lives, go out etc and  care not for hobbies such as gaming.
Just out of curiosity is this going to turn into a revealing our guilty pleasures thread?:o:bandit:

BS; especially the first sentence. Women run because of you hygiene, your bad mood, not caring about them and basic human things like that. If they run away because of the first probably they were a bunch of blonde-like cheerleder morons.

I´ll be clear and this and perhaps a bit blunt: I´d never **** anyone without less than an hour worth of conversation.

Hell no! When I hang out with my jock/ blond bimbo friends, it's like a dark secret that you have to keep in your closet. While with other social groups I can get away with hinting that I play Mass Effect or Supreme Commander or Half Life.

And the nerds at my school are just to hard core for me to even stand them, not only do they talk Dungeons and Dragons or that WOW/Final Fantasy crap. But they bring up disscussions such as "Well if Germany had the Mellinium Falcon they would have won". Sigh* Or "In Soviet Union during cold war the Communists where expriementing to make sasqach or Night Elves army"Posted Image

I think it's OK to openly say you're a gamer as long as you don't "look like a gamer", I.E. fat, dorky, pizza face. Not to say that's what gamers look like, but it's what society expects.

In other words if you a hot supermodel it okay to say your a gamer but if you have a glandular issue with a skin problem  its not.  I never thought of Gamer as a bad word until I read this thread, but I also consider being call a geek or a nerd a good thing. I just say be who you are and don't worry if is acceptable to be so. apparently it is socially acceptable to be asinine and insult someone different than you.I don't even no why you would put a label on what a gamer looks like. Go to a lan party some time you'll see a wide verity of appearances mostly being Skinny Asian kids with a lot of disposable income.

I hope you're right. But come on, you don't think it might put some women off if you tell
them you're really into Star Trek when you've just met them?
