I hope you're right. But come on, you don't think it might put some women off if you tell
them you're really into Star Trek when you've just met them?

Jeez no! Star Treck sucks! :P

Sure, some will, but there will be some that find you all the more attractive for it.

The problem is finding those girls that are receptive to it...  Murphy's Law it'll be the one girl you don't say it to :P

Since we are talking about girls, i must say i prefer MUCH more the "Shy and nerdy with glasses" types than the empty-headed bimbos that judge a guy based on the price of his car.

I think being a gamer might make a guy somewhat less attractive to a woman. Similarly being into science fiction or role playing...

or a compulsive masturbator.

Best to keep it quiet until you've hooked them.

Incidentally, I'm three out of four of those things.

BS; especially the first sentence. Women run because of you hygiene, your bad mood, not caring about them and basic human things like that. If they run away because of the first probably they were a bunch of blonde-like cheerleder morons.

Darker makes; rum, coffee, chocolate, brandy and clothing among others, far, far better. Oh, and lovely ladies too! :)

God me too. That is in fact much of the cause of my compulsive masturbation.

I never identify myself as a gamer... or anything else. If it comes up or if the person looks interested I may mention it in passing, but discussing my hobbies is generally a waste for small talk. I find it's better to be passive in a conversation with strangers anyway. I let them talk about themselves and remain a mostly silent listener.

As far as family goes it's fairly predictable. No one cares and my dad dislikes it, so there's no reason to bring it up. All my friends know I play video games and like P&P, and are either into the one or both, or simply don't care.

as a long time fanatical star wars fan, i just watched the Wrath of Kahn the other day (as well as the new iteration of Star Trek) and i found them to be quite awesome. cant wait to watch the others as soon as possible!

in any case, i dont introduce myself like; Hey, im Kurt (he used his real name! blasphemy), and im a gamer! then again, i dont have any quams telling males or females about my sci-fi/ gaming passion after i get to know them a bit. by that stage, they have hopefully identified me (correctly ha) as physically fit, emotionally sound and most importantly, not a gamer. i think that most gamers are people like me. they work hard, study hard at uni, are physically and socially active etc (ok get off your high horse). society is slowly starting to realise this fact.

finally, a girl that likes video games (or can atleast play them) is an awesome gf to have. im just sayin

how true.I never judge a guy on looks or his paycheck. Those types just turn me off.Besides I have a nice car anyways..lol
I prefer there be something inside.I've met and talked to some simply cool guys and girls here and find them much more interesting than  a pretty boy or girl that just thinks they're the cats meow, now me, I know I am! lol

It's not like you are admitting to being a member of the KKK, I don';t understand why anyone would make a big deal of it, there are much worse things in the world.

To me People think as soon as they here the word I'm a gamer they immediately think you have no life games rules your life this is so untrue way of thinking.

Like above said there way more worst things in life to worry about, I hate when people use labels but i understand why they exist kind off.

Did you ever have problems at work? With friends/family/partner? Because they don't understand your love for videogames or internet?

Is it *worse* if you are a female (i'm a female)? Or female gamers are better portrayed by society just because they are females? Why is it okay or *normal* to go out and get smashed, do drugs.. but on the other hand playing videogames makes you a weirdo? Is this a cliché?

Discuss :)

Videogames and gamers in The Netherlands (where I come from), stereotype (but true) edition:

1) Everyone plays videogames ones in a while, nothing to be ashamed of.
2) Even hardcore gamers get respected by the masses here, UNLESS you're a fatty or obsessed with your videogames. If you're a hardcore gamer, your'e fat and you have a obsessed in some way or form, you're a weirdo.
3) Even if you're a hardcore gamer who is obsessed with nerdy stuff, if you're a girl AND good looking, everyone will like you. Good looking nerd-girls are considered hot and 90% of all men will try to hit on you if you are a good-looking nerd-girl.

When I tell people I play video games, I get some interesting reactions. Many fellow females think it's a bit strange (if anything they would rather watch than play), while some others them as much as I do. On the other hand, most guys seem to think that it's pretty cool I play video games.

I have no qualms about wearing my HoM&M or my Mirror's Edge t-shirt.

I've been a gamer for about 17/18 of my 20 years on this planet, and as such I will openly admit that I play games.

Everyone I know knows that I play videogames and they are fine with it. Some of the popular girls at my school even play the, if you can believe that. So...yeah, I'd say it's becoming more and more acceptable...

I did however get in trouble for wearing my ME2 shirt to school. All because there was a gun on it...how dumb is that??? sheesh...

I find it difficult to believe Cannibal Corpse is acceptable to like openly.
