What game came out at the wrong time?

Oh yeah, a more recent example is No More Heroes 2. It came out the EXACT same day as Mass Effect 2. That pissed me off.

V:tM: Bloodlines was also a great game, but I think a bigger issue was that it was so bug-riddled and unfinished when it was released due to the devs going bankrupt (which also didn't help with the marketing).
Divinity 2: Ego Draconis is probably gonna be an overlooked game, considering it came out the same time as DAO.
There's a No More Heroes 2? Why does no one tell me these things...

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. It came out at almost the exact same time as Half Life 2 which stole all the attention. That is why the game is considered a "cult classic."

Bloodlines was ok but it always felt to me like a poor mans Deus Ex.

Agree completely with Beyond Good and Evil, a true classic.

Could be wrong but a community came together for the PC and fixed those bugs on Vampires.

I did not have the money for a PS2 until like a year or so after the system launched.

A game that I simply never found time to play: the Witcher. A dear friend gave this to me as a birthday gift two years ago, and I've never managed to get around to playing it. There is just so much else out there that it's ended up lost in my gaming backlog.

Find time, definitely... and patch it up (EE patch, if you don't have the EE version of the game). Probably one of the better RPGs in the last few years, despite it's somewhat lacking combat system and at the same time one of the best alchemy systems ever. Just... try it. And then follow it up with custom modules. To he honest, game's only fault was that it came out too early so it was kinda weak on the technical side of things. Now when it's patched it absolutely rocks, despite some complaints about combat (basically, it's a timing thing).Seagloom wrote...

Grey moral ambiguity at it's best.

I'll probably get around to it later this year. There's an RPG dry spell on the horizon; leaving me plenty of opportunities to go through some old games.

I am sure its failure was a resul of being not a complete game, and buggy as all get out.Busomjack wrote...

No. I guarantee you the fact that it was virtually unplayable had something to do with it.Arbiter Libera wrote...
I think it was more because of the Source Engine thing and rushing the developers to release early because Bloodlines would've then been the 1st game to feature it. But honestly, I don't remember what the situation was and if there was some pressure from Valve or Troika having early version of Source engine, I don't know. Although no one sane in their mind will deny that all of Troika's games were bugged on release, pretty much because of time constraints and publisher pressure.

Interestingly enough, I think some of the bugs actually added to the game's creepiness.

I couldn't play it until the fan "patch" came out, since it would crash to desktop every time I entered the sewers. And the fan "patch" ruined a lot of other things.Seagloom wrote...
That's a bit of an exaggeration, isn't it? I was able to finish Bloodlines at least once that I can remember before any patches came out. It had bugs, but unplayable? Let's not exaggerate.
When I did manage to play the game I enjoyed it, but that was about a year and a half after I bought it.
