Fantastic news, thank you for informing us, it's one thing i was worried as my main uses them mods.greenface21 wrote...
So far most aesthetic mods work on awakening. I've used hair mods, eye colors, white teeth and some face presets. These mods also work on the new character creation screen if you dont import. The mods that actually effect game mechanics like archery, spells etc.. wont work.
Oddly all my modded equipment was brought over (minus official DLC stuff) which i wasnt expecting...
Anyway great expansion. The character banter is hilarious!

I remember Nemesis mentioning that you can repaint shields. How does that work and can you repaint the heraldry on Cailan's shield?
You can buy various heraldry in stores and apply it to any shield (I repainted Duncan's shield with the Cousland heraldry).
Nice...does that include the Darkspawn shield?

Thank goodness!!! I've been so worried about that since almost all of my characters use facial mods! I am really getting some of my initial excitement back reading this thread. Now eagerly awaiting the 18th and cancelling all my appointments for the next weekendzchen wrote...

No, there's still dialogue you can have with them in camp -- when they have something to say you'll see the plot flag over their head. Those dialogues are keyed to events the same way as they were in Origins (meaning something has happened to prompt them, such as reaching a certain level in approval, a specific event, etc.) What's been removed is the laundry list of questions that you could normally ask a character.Brockololly wrote...
I guess my question is: is it still possible to have a complete relationship with a party member if you don't bring them along on a given quest? Or by not bringing a certain party member on a quest and thereby missing a dialogue spot, are you going to potentially miss out on some vital part of the character, like the opportunity to do a personal quest?
Or are personal quests, like Leliana and Marjolaine, Morrigan dealing with Flemeth or Alistair dealing with Goldanna, not in Awakening?
Too many damn questions, I wish amazon would just ship the thing!
So not spending time with a character by taking them into the party and actually adventuring them does limit the amount of dialogue you'll get with them, yes -- you'll have less opportunities to increase their approval in dialogue. I don't really think chatting up a character in camp and asking them a bunch of questions is the best way to do that, anyhow. But, no, you won't miss out on their personal quest -- that's a prompted dialogue, just as it was in Origins.
Whether or not it works will be up to you to judge, of course, but from my perspective it's much more effective on the whole for character development.
I have to agree with David, glad to hear that some of the dialogue tighter, don't get me wrong, i loved the dialogue in da:o but some of it was out of place, da:o has the best dialogue and banter i heard in any story focused game, however, example i use is leliana, favourite char in origins, but you had to hear a lot of storys to really get know her proper.
Lovely storys on first hearing, but on second, third hearing can grate, when you want to get to know both sides of her, will have to wait and see, ofc some people will like it, some won't.

sometimes the repainting doesnt work, then just switch the shield to another character or change location - then it works, you need to have the shield equipped (any character) and then simply use the heraldic

Also, do you need to register Awakening on the site for your awakening stats to appear on your player profile, or will your imported character's stats just upload on your DA:O profile when you start playing awakening, like with any other DLC?

Unlike ME2 the context dialogue is full conversation and not simply ambient comments from a party members. We do give up the "list of questions" that you can ask a party member -- but, after discussing it within the team for a while we decided that had limited value. You got to talk to someone, but without context it was all exposition. So we're trying this out. There's still lots of dialogue and banter, but with any luck it'll be more effectively used.
I guess its a bit of a trade off then: more context sensitive dialogues on the events at hand versus having the more expository but non plot related chats. Having not played Awakening yet, am I right to think that the "list of questions" would be like in DAO being able to ask Leliana about her stories or asking Morrigan what its like growing up in the Wilds or asking Alistair what being a templar was like?
So in Awakening , you can't just start up a chat with a companion and ask from the list of questions but rather you'll be prompted at the dialogue points to start a conversation or if you were in camp you would only be able to chat with someone if they had something specific to tell you? Doesn't this limit your ability to get to know the party members unless you take them with you on quests?
From what I have been reading, Awakening's storyline does not seem as it will be anywhere near as meaningful or engrossing as Origins. I think Bioware really missed the boat on this by not providing people what they really enjoyed most in this game. If they were going to utilize resources and talent on creating an expansion, it should have expanded on what made Origins so outstanding. I am confident now that any DA:2 game will have little to do with anything/anyone from Origins. This is what I was afraid of, I am very disappointed.

People in Europe got it early...Germany and Switzerland, and there are some retail stores in the US..that have sold Awakening copies early as well.
So don't doubt...believe.
And if you don't wish to read spoilers...don't read this thread. Simple enough.

This..as I have stated a couple times before..is what I am expecting for DA:2...a radical change from what we became familiar with in Origins.
Its a franchise, (media franchise) I looked the meaning of that up, and it means that they could expand in any direction they please, from t-shirts to movies..I guess, if they want to go that way.

Seriously, if you don't want to find out this stuff until you get the game, stop coming on this thread.
As for not believing the several people who have posted their discoveries of the Awakening game mechanics, there has already been an ingame screenshot posted. Guess you didn't actualy bother to look.

This is what made the personal interactions with your companions so unique and fantastic in Origins; it made the relationships more believable. Most of the dialogue was unexpected until you 'clicked' on the companion and it changed depending on how the relationship progressed. Having an 'illuminated arrow' over a companion seems so canned and scripted. I believe you have taken the personal element out of the game that made Origins so fantastic.

I just hope that like ME2's changes, Bioware doesn't go overboard in some areas to tighten things up and in the process loses some of the little things that made DAO great, not just good. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
As for Awakening's story, thats one thing I'm excited about- I'm hoping that having a real antagonist in The Architect will seem like more of a personal threat than the Archdemon and Blight were in DAO. If the Architect is still up to his plans from the Calling, then Awakening could be quite awesome.
