I was so excited for Awakening.......it has MASSIVE potential.....but i guess EA's money grubbing got in the way, and wanted an expansion as fast as possible, so bioware did their best in the amount of time they were alotted......and this is what we got. Its sad, truly sad.....awakening could have been legendary..........but its just been one huge dissapointment after another.....from no DLC, to hours of gameplay, to changing dialogue, the dissapointing hits just haven't stopped.

You have a long hard life ahead of you, my friend.  If this stellar game has caused you to feel this way.  Image IPB

Yep, I agree with the above and personally think Bioware don't fully understand the ramifications of limiting conversations insofar as it effects our (the players) sympathetic identification with the characters.

I would object to the idea that "sympathetic identification" requires being able to talk to a character anytime, anywhere, about anything. I understand that some people liked the way the dialogue worked in DAO, but just because you liked the characters does not mean that the way it worked didn't have its down side or that altering one aspect of it (the list of questions when you clicked on a character) suddenly means only the extreme opposite is possible and all characters are rendered personality-less automatons.

Could you click on party members in BG2 and ask them questions? No? Were they without personality or the possibility of "sympathetic identification"?

My observation is that the most effective means of connecting with party members is through banter and dialogues that actually have import -- they relate to something that is actually going on, either in the plot or in their lives. Being able to ask them all sorts of background questions, while pleasant enough, never really added very much -- and while I get that some people automatically imagine that this means they won't get to talk to their favorite characters at all, it just isn't so. Just because something has been changed does not always result in a net negative.

Again, I'd suggest actually trying it out. You can always return here afterwards and complain bitterly about it, along with the lack of [insert favorite character here], the travesty of [insert plot element here] or the injustice of [insert failure to carry forward plot element here]. :)

Seems as if this may already be expected then?

On an internet forum dedicated to a video game....this is ALWAYS expected, regardless the quality of said game.

Maybe. Personally it sounds like spin to me.

You may be right with regard to the most disgruntled of us out there, but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate it every time I see your name pop up into a thread.  I don't post a lot, but I spend time combing through the forums to see what developers have to say (and a few regular posters I remember), and I think a big part of keeping my interest in this game going over the years before it was released was being able to follow that process through your commentary (and Mary's and Sheryl's and everyone else's).

So, here's one vote for you posting whatever you feel like posting as much as you feel like posting, and I have a feeling that a lot of your silent audience probably feels the same way.  The most extreme voices are always the loudest, particularly on the internet, and there are a lot of us who value these forums a great deal and maybe don't take the time we should to acknowledge that publicly.  Don't worry about the haters...

Read the last few sentences in the discription. Unless Orghren dances a jig in a black speedo, not very accurate.

I really want to find someone who has played Awakening with a human noble. Preferably after marrying Alistair or Anora. These posts that I am reading are making my heart sink.

No, I totally do. I'm just sick of people actually getting a response from someone on the dev team (someone who has no direct say in the programming of the game nor access to the answers you want) and then going "OH NOES I GOT AN OFFICIAL RESPONSE FOR SHAME".

People in this thread make it sound like you can't talk to the
characters at all, that you can't have a dialogue with them. What if I
go past a group of women, and Oghren starts talking about how he wants
to do this and that with them... and I can say something to him that
opens up some funny dialogue? Why assume that you will not get to know
the characters just because you can't pester them in camp over and over?

You're steering the wrong way there so let me help you get back on course before you drive off the side of a cliff.

No ones really talking about pestering characters at camp or bashing this new system, I think the new system has quite a bit of potential. The noise being made is mostly because some people are having a difficult time agreeing with David that dialogue that is non-plot essential, such as important bits of their history, is superfluous and lends nothing to building and portraying of a character and citing that as a reason to cut back on the amount of dialogue.  I haven't seen anyone going off on Awakening's system or anything like that, just trying to decipher or simply disagreeing with David's opinion.

It would blow DA for me if they totally mess up the story. However, I haven't found anyone who took a human noble into awakening. (Which is surprising, that is my fav origin)

There is also no need to brown-nose, just because you do get a response from one of them.

if it messes with you decions in awakening make sure you back up your saves before you put them into awakening so you can still use them in other expansions if they improve and the option is given and use a different character instead of fhn or play as an orlesian but dont let it put you off playing awakening it still might be an ok game for some of your less fave origin stories

I do believe someone has, just will not give out any spoilers in regards to that storyline. I read that very little reference was made your life from Origins, so I think there will be no interactions worth mentioning if you wed Alistair and are his Queen. What an utter waste of a fantastic storyline (IMO).

Ill reserve judgment on awakening until I play it, I don’t like the sound of the new dialogue system as it sounds like it’s too stripped down especially as the cast of characters was IMO one of the strongest aspects of dragon age, I really enjoyed their 'laundry list' options and felt they were relevant to the character and did not care if they were irrelevant to the main plot. Still ill wait until I try it. Can’t wait to crush the spectral dragon looks like an awesome battle. Little annoyed it lasts for 'only' 15 hours but I always want more dragon age so I'm not the best judge I guess.

Bratt 1204 and Cmessaz- I edit on the Fallout, FF and Mass effect wiki’s and the problem is theirs so many people that put silly stuff like that in articles. My absolute favorite **** up for example was a guy making up races in the mass effect universe and writing them into articles, people were rather P*** off when they found out they were from the guys head and were not in the game :}. Neither were the admins and editors when half the site had to be revised and re-wrote. You simply lose the will to correct the hundreds of mistakes or stupidity people insert in articles :} still one of the senior editors should clean the page up a little. And that’s without vandals....I simply won’t write about the vandals my head will pop in frustration. ( Wiki rambling ends)

Also do I understand correctly that this comes out on the 18th in England and not the 21st which the guy at game told me (whose a complete **** BTW) if so yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I get it 3 days sooner than I expected.

Brings me back to they should have just made it into a new game and charged more money for it. Not made it into an expansion. Sounds to me like they blew it on this one. Will see tomorrow.

they are just trying to show more of thedas as its a huge place and theres much more to the world so in order to tell the story of amaranthine and architect they didnt have the funds or the resources from what i can gather to add everything so somethings got put on hold like the romances and other stuff which i'm not to happy about but i do understand but on the up side on the projects page theres an alistair flirt mod in the making :}

I had a question for anyone who can answer. On one of my playthroughs I used the ability tome glitch just to try it out and now my character isn't fun because there's nothing to get but I really like how I roleplayed him and would like to use him in awakening. If I respec will the ability/skill points got from the tomes carry over? Or does respecing only give you ability points based on your level?

Also does the gold glitch still work?

That is some funny stuff. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Dang it! Did you have to walk in front of me while I was trying to loot this corpse!  It's better than Oblivion while you are fighting with others and your allies walk in front of you and you kill them as your other allies yell out "By the nine! There is a murderer on the loose!"
