Okay guys, I am currently running on a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 graphics card. So far the game stays steadily on 31fps, (I've limited it to 30fps)
When playing a game, specifically this game(and a few others).
The fan gets rather loud, especially during gameplay. When I say loud, not exactly a jet taking off, but more of a car accelarating, Its mostly annoying.

Is it normal for a graphics card/fan to get quite loud during a demanding game like Mass effect? A few other examples of games that this happens with are: The sims 3, Mass Effect 1, Fallout 3, GTA 4. and a few others..

So is this normal? I've already lost one graphics card due to overheating, I would hate for it to happen again.

Also I have heard there is a NIVIDIA driver that can cause your graphics card to overheat, if so..which one? And how do I check my current driver?

Follow those steps and the driver version is displayed on the right :-)
The official NVIDIA forums might also help ;-)

Thanks :), I checked there and I know how to roll back to my last driver..You see I partially installed the new driver but because of my cat.. The computer turned off while it was installing, so I have no idea wether I have the new driver or still have my last one...

Any idea how to check my current driver?

EDIT: Oh you just answered my question! Thanks

Right my driver is 8.17.11.9621. So am I safe? lol or do I need to roll back a driver? Sorry about all these stupid questions..I don't know much about computers...:)

Damn, there seems to be a different version number of the actual driver files and the install package. I'm an ATi user, so I don't know for certain. Version 196.75 is mostly reported to cause overheat problems. If you click through this driver selection
http://www.nvidia.co...aspx?lang=en-us
you get 196.21 which is mostly reported to fix the over heat problem.

And just a little hint for future questions: just formulate them normally to Google, saves time ;-)

Just though I would bump this just to say, that apparently the fans getting this loud is normal. I took it in for a check-up and apparently everything is running as it should be. Oh well..I guess I'll just have to put up with the noise. Its just quite annoying, I thinks its mainly my graphics card...

NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250.

Out of curiosity, to anyone with this card. Is it normal with your card to increase in sound and pitch when playing a game such as Mass Effect 2?
Lol. The noise just bugs me...Its probably just my young ears... :P

It's normal as when gaming or doing heavy workloads will inevitably heat the card up much more then when it just displays your desktop. A dual slot card that blows air out the back of the case (rather then dumping it back IN the case) will help alleviate the problem as will water cooling, water cooling is the only way to 100% eliminate fan noise.
