PS has lost GTA and now FF as exclusives. While God of War and Uncharted are arguably great series as well, they probably aren't of Halo-level sales success (over multiple games, I mean - as a series) yet so...
Sony fans probably see it as some kind of betrayal, sure.
I agree the reaction is extremely immature, but I understand the source of their emotions (if not condoning the extent of it.)

It always amazes me how invested some can get in the endless console superiority debate. This reaction is excessive to the point of hilarity. You have a point Merin, but I think you may be giving some of these fans too much credit. I'm not sure how many of them look at FFXIII's existence on 360 as a betrayal or how it will affect the continued longevity of their console choice, but going by what I see online, there's a crowd that's content to bash it simply because it's trendy or they are slavishly devoted to Sony.
I hope I'm not giving them too much credit.
I'm bending my ability to sympathize to grant them that, on my end, I was happy to see GTA cross over to the XBOX not because I wanted the game NOR because I wanted Sony to fail, but the console I had invested in I wanted to be successful enough to keep putting out games I could play. Final Fantasy, a series I admired but rarely got to play (no PS) coming to the 360 was a big deal for me, personally - again, not to shaft Sony, but because it meant a game I wanted to play was on the 360. Also, same for Dante's Inferno - I basically get God of War gameplay on my system now.
I am absolutely against the "us vs. them" mentality, and console wars are about the most insignificant and yet extreme example of how far people take "supporting their item/team/side/belief."

The way those Final Fantasy fans acted was plain petty and selfish to me.

Not owning a console, I can't sympathize from personal experience. If I did, however, I would almost certainly feel as you do. I always see multi-platform releases as a good thing. It exposes a wider audience to what may be great games. Sometimes it irks me when a certain console is used as a baseline and others do not have their full potential tapped, or worse, receive sloppily translated versions; but it still beats not having the option at all.

This, all over. I hate this whole 'But we DESERVE these exclusives!' attitude. Screw that! Gaming should bring people together, not tear them apart.

You would think given the constant flak the industry gets we'd all be holding hands and singing songs to muffle the sound of Chris Hansen-esque bullcrap rather than spewing redundant trash like the fanboys we are.

Wasn't Final Fantasy a Nintendo exclusive originally, before finally going to PlayStation at around FFVII 'cos PlayStation was using CDs, allowing them to add more content, whereas Nintendo still had cartridges?
HA! It's amazing how people are talking about this like it's ancient history when I remember it like it was yesterday.
Yes, Nintendo made some very stupid decisions which cost them Squaresoft and Enix. The dumbest of them all was to make the Nintendo 64 a cartridge based system, and the second dumbest thing was for Nintendo to claim that people who play RPGs are not real gamers and that the Nintendo 64 doesn't need RPGs to succeed.
Needless to say, Squaresoft and Enix got pissed off at Sony which is why we saw the next installments of Dragon Quest(then known as Dragon Warrior in the USA) and Final Fantasy appear on the PS1.

I love the irony here.

Yup. Square released a tech demo of an FF-looking game running on Nintendo hardware then jumped ship when a cartridge format was announced. You hit the nail on the head. Now that you bring it up, I do remember some outrage back then too. Funny.
Edit: Ninja'ed. Woo!

"Just you wait for the 64DD to come out!"
It was funny how it kept on getting delayed, delayed, delayed and then finally it comes out in Japan only and only 5 games are ever made for it.

Even more amusing is how that all fell apart, the whole Nintendo failing to do a CD based game system.
Nintendo should have known better, they had been through the same situation awhile before.
Atari was the console king in America, and entered into negotiations with Nintendo to release their console in the US. The talks fell apart, Nintendo released their console on their own, and we now say "Atari had a console?"
Nintendo was, similarly, in talks with Sony for Sony to make the CD add-on for a new Nintendo game system. The talks fell apart in a strikingly similar way and Sony decided to release the CD based game console, the PS1, on it's own. While Nintendo didn't disappear from the console market, it lost the crown to Sony until the Wii.

Yeah. I hate it when companies want to be the most successful. Corporations should act in a way completely counter to their purpose just so I can feel better about a purchase.SithLordExarKun wrote...
I don't blame the 360, i blame microsoft. Really. First GTA, then Final Fantasy and now Metal Gear Solid which i think is fine but what i don't like is microsoft paying these companies to not release certain content on other platforms(alan wake and GTA episodes from liberty city). At least initially.
