The thing that really separates this from other Bioware games is the lack of an alignment meter. In KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Jade Empire, they had those annoying meters that incentived playing the extremes. Even though they split the two scales in ME, you were still rewarded for being an extreme a-hole or a super goodie two shoes from start to finish. What I really enjoyed about DA:O is that I can start out being a nice polite guy, and change, over time, into a power hungry ruthless bastard. Or I could have a Han Solo situation where I start off as a greedy scoundrel, who grows a heart. Not that you couldn't do this in other games, but with the dialog options and even combat bonuses being tied your alignment meter, it made it not as worth it. Here I can be somewhat morally ambiguous about certain things, while being more of stand-up guy in other situations. I hope future Bioware games adopt this style of play and abandon the silly alignment polarity that has plagued other games.
Why this is better than other Bioware games.
