Not My Shepard - Custom Shepard support thread.

Facegen in ME sucks. As long as there is no facegen tool that allows to create a truly unique face, all your custom Shepards will look like generic NPCs.
And don't think a modified haircut and\\or badass facial hair will change anything.

Not My Shepard
I for one love my custom Sheps and know others do too, I never like Sheploo representing the game as he's not a character I have ever or will ever use.
So let's show our appreciation for the varied and wonderful custom Shepards out there. Male or female. Yes including Ugly Shepard.
Note: This is not a hate thread. I just don't like Sheploo's limelight hogging. If you actually like playing as Sheploo.. well goot for you.
We need this picture everywhere. A car sticker would be great.

Its not as if Bioware is actually forcing you to use it, anymore than the dark haired male Warden in Dragon Age.

You know what?
Millitary types are not exactly sensual looking ones. Not something the people in "gay romance" threads would like to comprehend.
Well, as for FemSheps, I do agree, that facial reconstruction tool is not an easy one to create something better than default FemShep, but certain diligence wll repay with good results here too.

It's stupid.

Um... Kay?
I do have to say that I haven't seen a "great" custom face yet imo. Some of the one's in this thread are very very good and I applaud their creators for doing so much with relatively little tools given to them, but the way its set-up you end up being the least detailed character among the crew regardless of how hard you try.
That and I actually like the VanderlooShep. Yes I know.

I'll add mine. Nothing to scoff at either IMO.

No good screenshots of my femSheps yet.
Again, I don't dislike the default face, it's just that I want to feel I'm playing my character and not someone else's. It's nothing more that the default Shepard is
...not my ShepardAs for which Shepard will be remembered: everyone who has played ME2 will remember his or her own Shepard(s) as the "true" ones, by their looks and their decisions.

I play Sheploo because:
1) He looks much better and more detailed than any custom Shepard.
2) He's the mascot of Mass Effect. You'll see him everywhere and in every video. By playing Sheploo I avoid this "this is not my Shepard" feeling, because he IS my Shepard.
3) Sheploo is modeled after Mark van der Loo, a Dutch model. I'm Dutch myself, so I support our Dutch Sheploo!

^ I don't quite understand why that hairstyle is so popular. It looks like Shepard just came out of the shower.
The messy look is in, it suits my Renegade's "screw the world" attitude, and it's not available by normal means. People will always gravitate to what we can't have.
I think it's more to do with the Unreal Engine, it lacks physics that could be applied to hair so "wet look" hair is a more natural feel when the hair is static. all of the default Shepard hair is meant to look "normal" so the result is a head of hair that looks like a carved hunk of wood glued on to a scalp. Unreal Engine is all shooter, it was never really built for the RPG set, no cloth, no hair, no nothin'. Of course, hair is amazingly complicated as is cloth, many companies have made cloth and hair physics but no one has managed it with out a major propensity for hitching. I would love to see someone invest the time, effort and funds on an engine that can do cloth without sh!tting the bed, I doubt we'll see it though. It's too much for current consoles, it will come, high(ish) PCs are easily ready to to handle it and that tech will filter down to next gen consoles so a cloth-friendly engine would have application to a much, much larger market than PC only.

My issue with Sheploo is he is baby-faced. Shepard is a veteran, not a cadet, Shepard been through some major sh!t, it puts lines on the face. When Shepard looks like GQ model it just isn't right.
It's what happens when you give a hardened space marine the face of a guy who is pampered for a living.

Babyface... are you friggin serious? That man looks at least as old as James Bond does. His shaved haircut and unshaved face makes him exactly look like how a typical marine looks like.
But seriously, you call this baby face?:

I miss the custom scars we had in ME1. Even my paragon Shep looked like a vet back then.
Now in ME2 my paragon looks exactly like you say, a model. <_<

Come now in that particular pic he looks like somebody's just made him cry by kicking sand in his face.
Also LOL at those tattoos. A shame Sheploo isn't "fully" Mark Vanderloo. He could compare torsos with Jack.

I don't know if I'd say that. I'm sure many do here, but we're a more hardcore audience so to speak. I imagine your average player just hits start and gets moving.
In any case, I'm totally pro-custom Shep (I can be both!), and there are quite a few good faces here - yours included.

Well yeah, maybe in that particular pic. But on the other hand, most custom-Sheps look like they just sh*tted their pants or are about to take a really big sh*t. So yeah, dunno, I think Sheploo is the most natural face you can get for Commander Shepard.

1) no.
2) so, you play him, because "everyone" does? So why do you play RPGs then? Why not just play Crysis or something...
3) one more reason to hate him.. not that he's Dutch, but a fashion model as an elite space marine.. yeah, great, really...
