I see so many people complaining. But look at this--2K came out and admitted that thier recent MP Pack for Bioshock 2 was on the disk already. Then they tried to justify it. Atleast thats not happening here.

I think the consensus is that Shepard's "dirty dozen" ought to be free through Cerberus Network. 12 squadmates was the idea from the very beginning, so to penalize game owners by charging for the final member just seems egregious. It's a shame that Zaeed and Kasumi weren't included in the shipped game, but I understand deadlines better than anyone - that's no fault of Bioware's. It just seems in poor taste to charge the customers extra for content that they were promised from the onset. If squadmate 13 comes down the pike, it's understandable that it would be paid content (though admittedly bundling multiple DLCs into a single full game expansion would be far superior than downloading each shotgun, armor, heavy weapon, etc. seperately). Maybe "cut" is the wrong term to apply to the content, but regardless, it was planned since the E3 09 release and therefore should be considered as base content not extra.

1) Miranda

2) Jacob

3) Mordin

4) Garrus

5) Jack

6) Grunt

7) Thane

8) Samara

9) Tali

10) Legion

11) Zaeed

12) Kasumi

I thought it was going to make 14 as well, having remembered the "dirty dozen" phrase. I was surprised as hell when I counted.

Oddly enough, last time I did this count, 13 characters turned up, minus Kasumi. I cannot, for the life of me, understand how that happened.

Scratch that, found the post, I fail at math.

Count! plus Morinth or Samara, you can't have them both so basically they're twelve.

EDIT:

Damn you beat me to it :P

Of course they weren't. Because the game was pushed out of the door early. The options to configure vehicle controls, while there is no vehicle in the game, is prove enough. But there are occasions of cut corners, missing polish and missing content to be found throughout the game. ME 2 was released months before it should have been. Had this decision not been made, the vehicle as well as the two characters would have been included in the game, the latter probably with a proper dialogue wheel too. To say they weren't actually cut - since they were not finished - is a nice try of spinning this, but it makes no difference for the customers.

That said, and on topic: The Cerberus Network is not a "complete failure". The technology works. The content though is certainly underwhelming. I bought ME 2 because I love ME 1 and expected BioWare to be able to deliver a game at least as good. They didn't, in my opinion. Had I known that before, I would have waited and bought the game from the budget bin or second-hand. Nothing that the Cerberus Network provides "for free" so far would have changed that decision, and I wouldn't have purchased the access to it either. It's just not enough, not good enough.

Cerberus Network isn't a complete failure. The Cerberus Network works as intended.
It's the content added to the game that is completely out of place and thus, a failure.

We're very much aware of what the "hackers" were able to find in the PC game, and completely expected these bits to be found.

If Zaeed or Kasumi was unfinished before, doesn't that suggest that they'd be finished now? Because.. well.. they're not.

Agreed.
If she was planned from 09, then its really not cool to have us pay for her.

She wasn't removed from the game. She was planned as a DLC - she has been planned as such for a long time. They developed the finished game around that, to ensure that she fits in flawlessly. That's why she's got little bits of code related to her character on the game disc
.
She wasn't finished when the game shipped though. Again, she was planned, from the beginning, to be a DLC character.

Finally, someone gets it. Neither Zaeed or Kasumi were finished in time for the main game- not nearly, in fact. Months since the game went gold were spent on their development. Speculate all you want, but believe me - we monitor these forums. The basis for this thread (the claim that dlc was pulled from disc to be shipped/sold later) - is incorrect.

so you did "the Valve's way" putting some data to prepare the game for a future dlc. (I say valve's way because they always do this, especially with team fortress 2 and l4d, this method is very useful because with it is easier to make the content fit perfectly in the game and without errors)

for me is fine.

I'm pretty sure implementing a new character into an already existing game would take time to design their missions, set up their abilities as to be balanced and make sure they have dialog (everyone complained about not being able to talk to Zaeed this time their fixing that) which could take some time.

There's one thing you complainers don't understand.

Most game developers that have to leave content out of the final game, content which they 'promised' to be in the released game, don't continue developing that content. Instead, they just let the released game be like that, maybe make a couple of patches.

Bioware, on the other hand, continues developing the game and giving us free content. Content released after the release of the game is additional content by definition, since pretty much no other company would even give the option of downloading material that didn't make it to the final release, much less for free. Stop complaining already and see the situation for what it is, not through your "You promised!" goggles.

I think it should be free. Not because I don't want to spend money, rather because I fear it will be as lame as Zaeed implementation in the game... *cross fingers*

Just wanted to chime in again very quickly...

For those of you who think you need an XBL gold account to use cerberus network, you dont. Just a standard (free) silver account is all you need.

And because the hotdogs at 711 don't taste as great as the hotdogs at the ballpark - those should be free too.

Concept wise yes Cerberus is a nice concept , and maybe my language was a bit harsh.I hope to one day enter the game industry and appreciate the work done by the team that created the game.

All I was saying is the Kasumi dlc could have been the last big push for validating the Cerberus network.I understand everything can't be free , but in the end it is what it is.I plan on buying the dlc.

In my opinion to myself I see it as a failure , but to some others it's the other way around which is fine.

Could the annoying troll please keel over and die? Thanks.

On a semi-serious note: It's amazing how people can complain, even when they get content for free.

Isn't the point of the topic to point out how Cerberus network is a failure. How does someones opinion suddenly mean complaining(I'm not getting that).I'm pretty sure most of the people including myself will buy the content. When you take away the launch day content , so far its you get an armor , and weapon.(which is ok).

Speaking for myself I don't have to like everything about the Cerberus network.I appreciate what's been given that's free , but that's not try to call Cerberus network the best thing ever.

You people have very selective memory.  They' stated from the start that there will be free dlc and pay per dlc.  You complain about Free.  You complain about Pay. So STFU.

People are complaining about the free and the paid content for the same reason - it's not worth what Bioware values it at. Cerberus Network is valued at $15 but all that it's delivered is a 10 min collection mission, a half-assed character (whose single mission was the only impressive part of CN thus far), a helmet-wearing armor, and 2 after-the-fact weapons. Granted Firewalker is on the way, but still, that bundle falls far short of a $15 price tag. It's the same thing with Kasumi. We hear that we get one mission, another after-the-fact weapon, and another half-assed character and we expect it to be included in the Cerberus Network. Instead we find out that it's $5 extra. My memory is selective, yes, but it goes all the way back to E3 09 and the promise of "Shepard's dirty dozen."
