Hi, I have a big problem. I tried to create a character, but as soon as I choose what class it is, the image of character disappears. I tried uploading form Character Creator (where I could finish creating one with no problems), but if I try to play I get some bald dude running around, not at all what I created...

I tried searching for similar problems, but found just one and no solution, so maybe someone can help me pleaseeee:unsure:.

I try to play with my laptop, Dell D620, some specs:

Intel® Core™2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz, RAM 1022.0 MB
XP and video card is Quadro NVS 110M.

AFAIK, that Quadro is not adequate to run the game with, and since it's in a laptop, isn't supported officially anyway. The standalone Character Creator applet isn't intended to function anything like a demo. Your hardware must meet minimum standards, and in fact, when it is fast enough and functional enough for the real game's character creation, it might not pass the next step, interacting with the environment.

(OK, I paused there, and that Quadro is as old and puny as a Geforce 7300 GS, which is WAY below the minimum.)

http://www.notebookc...10M.2435.0.html

Here are the minimum requirements for XP and Vista and the recommended system requirements.

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (either this is wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater (or this one is wrong)
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least)

But even if a 6600 GT was useful for this game, a Quadro 110M is not. close to that level, even:

I have the same problem, but I have played for a while already. I tried to start the game today and then I had the same problems as you've had. I actually have 2 chars to play, but wanted to create a new one, but that didn't work at all... So if I have been playing for a while and it have been working fine, then it can't be my computer components that are bad.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP

If you have a supported system, with decent video, two things may have happened, the first more likely than the second.  The interaction among the three key graphics softwares has been interrupted by corruption in one or another of those, or the video card has become defective in some manner.

That's for a supported video solution.  If you had ignored the requirements, and gotten by with it for a time, it would be far more likely that the games' demands would have been too much for a substandard device that is now failing.

But we can't tell you anything, because you told us almost nothing.

Preliminary diagnostic information

PCs are not *anything* at all like game console systems.  There is almost nothing that is truly "standard" between various branded PCs, making the game developers' jobs very difficult, and requiring that warning labels be attached to game boxes for those games that have serious requirements.

In case you have misunderstood how to evaluate your PC compared to that game box label, we have to start from here.  Please fill it all in (if you have a problem with that, and are in the DA: O Social Sites' forums, do a search for "Basics" without the quote marks).

Basic Hardware Specification Chart (Empty so far)

Processor Manufacturer: AMD / Intel
Processor Name / Type: Athlon 64 / Pentium / C2D / dual core / quad, etc.
Processor Speed:  ?.? Ghz (or AMD Performance Number)
Operating System / Service Pack: WindowsXP with SP #?, Win7, Vista ? (Oh, no!)
System RAM: ? ? GBs (MBs, if less than 1024 ? )
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: ATI / Nvidia (only those two are supported, PERIOD, so answer which of them you have)
Video Card Model: (examples) Radeon HD 5670 / Geforce GT 240
Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (use the numbers, not the word "latest")
Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs
Sound Card Manufacturer:
Sound Card Model:

(And this is only for the raw hardware variations.  Potential software conflicts are far more likely to be game play problems, and developers cannot test for all possible program loads.)

I am really impressed of how quick you posted again, and how much you have posted. And thanks for taking jour time, I really appriciate it.

My hardware:
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core 3.02GHz
System RAM: 2,00 GB
Operative System: 32-bit Win7
Video GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 260

I do not think my hardware is the problem, but you would probably know better than me so. Hope this information helps.
EDIT: The graphic card is not old at all, so I do not think that it has become defect or anything.

The nVIDIA cards that have more overheat (and resulting damage) problems are mostly those related to the Geforce 8n00 generation, especially the mobile versions, which literally had hardwired instructions to run the fans incorrectly.

In the order of both the most likely vector, and easiest to deal with, start by using just about any Geforce driver other than 196.75 or whatever you have installed now. You should probably use a driver cleaner utility to be sure that the old driver is totally gone.

If that's not the fix, get the latest Dx9 (not Dx10 or Dx11), and install that. If it still does the same thing, reinstall the game itself.

I remember that I have read something earlier, it had something to do with that the game could only be installed a set number of times. I might have misunderstood some of it, but is it like that? Can you only install it a set number of times?

That may have been Mass Effect 1 you are thinking about.  It was going have a very restrictive DRM at first, which eventually was made less horrible, and had a limit of five concurrent installs, but eventually would reset the counter during an uninstall.

Dragon Age in hard copy is unlimited in that regard.  Since I have never been interested in downloading a digital copy, I can't confirm that all such or any such are the same (I think so).

At least through steam there is no download limit, and I'm fairly certain all other digital copies have no download limit as well.

What patch are you using? If it's 1.03, there's your problem. 1.03 somehow manages to destroy the character creation screen. I suggest reinstalling the game and patching only to 1.02a

This is just getting better and better. I tried to do what Crimson_king_ suggested and uninstalled the game. But now, my computer will not read the CD. What in the name of God can I do now?

My computer could not detect that the Dragon Age: Origins CD was inside the CD-drive. But I managed to insert the CD into an other computer and run the setup over the network. Now it works just fine, and I will install the 1.02a patch.

Thanks for all your help.

Yay, more porblems today. I just bought DA: Awakening and installed. Fair enough, it worked when I wanted to import a char, but as soon as I want to create a new, I get to the problem that this thread is about. The char does not show as it should and things like that.

So, what now? You said that the 1.03 patch does this to me, but I can not play Awakening without that patch.

Now I want as good suggestions as possible, because I am about to freak out and throw the computer out the window! Is it windows 7 that screws up the game or what?

Create a new character in 1.02a, install awakenings, then import the character. Less than ideal, but it gives you something to do while we wait for the next patch...

I had the same problem - In short: I found out that a reinstall of the patch 1.03 worked :-)

The problem occured after i installed Awakening, but as lazy I am. I didnt wanted to uninstall everything, but decided to just try and reinstall the patch 1.03 as it was the latest :-) As stated before it worked. :-)

I decided to try something and it worked for me, and someone else says it worked for them also. Make a copy of your .exe before you do it. Replace your current 1.03 .exe with an earlier one. Any earlier .exe should work, then you can use the chargen (you can only make a character for origins this way) again. Make as many new characters & saves as you feel you will need or may want to use before the next patch, and then place your copy of the 1.03 .exe back into your directory to enable Awakenings & other content again.
