So I've just recently started my Vanguard Insanity run and I was wondering what armor combination would maximize the effectiveness of an aggresive-style Vanguard.  Should I max out health or max out shields (barrier), maybe both?  I was also wondering whether or not the +10% headshot damage from the Kuwashi Visor would benefit me more than the +5% health from the N7 Helmet seeing as how it's quite easy to line up a headshot after Heavy Charge.

I personally just wear what looks good, and I like to max out my shields.

Same here.  Lucky for me, the Melee shoulders are the best looking...

Shields are more important than Health for a Vanguard. You get back a percentage of shields every time you charge, so the more shields you have.. the more protection you gain back each charge.

That is somewhat misleading.  Base shields are 250, and Heavy Charge gives a 100% boost to base shields only, IIRC.  What's an extra 10% boost to base shields on top of that?  525 shields instead of 500?  I'd take the health bonus since your shields will almost always fail before your charge cools down anyway.

Shields are way better than health for a vanguard. If you charge properly you should never take any health damage.

Strength boosting pads (+25% melee damage) makes a difference, I have not noticed any significant difference with the other pieces.

I wear default most of the time, though I may give the melée shoulders this time. I'll miss my stripe though... :(

Kuwashii visor (10% headshot damage, looks good)

Strength boost pads (+25% melee dmg)

Stabilizer gauntlets (+5% weapon dmg)

Shield harness (5% shields)

And the pants that increase health.

I use all the shield boosters except the shoulder pads, those are the melee damage boosters.

I really can't live without the legs that make you run faster. Although on a vanguard you probably don't run much so I would max sheilds and melee shoulders.

Yes its only 110% shields but the recharge rate doesn't make that distinction when you charge or use a shield talent.
You'll get back half of whatever your shields are every time with charge.

I like the capacitor chestplate, because is saves on downtime, and looks good, but that, or the shied harness are both nice for vanguard. Melee shoulders are a must. If you have the Dr. Pepper headgear, the Sentinal Interface is the perfect Vanguard headpiece.

I used:
Recon Hood
Strength Boost Pads
Aegis Vest/Shield Harness/ Capacitor Chestplate
Stabilization Gauntlets
Stimulator Conduits

Looks cool, and lets my Vanguard do more damage and move quickly.

I opt for the Recon Hood just because you can't always headshot enemies, especially large bosses. Also because I use flamethrower a lot.
