its about time everyone relized wat a fail the ff games are...the fact that in an interview square was actully asked why their game isnt doing as well as mass effect 2 is just hilaroius.....and seroisly they had the guts to ask bioware help make blue dragon 2..HA as if bioware would have to do anything with that disgrace of a game...its about time people with talent like bioware came in and destroyed posers like square enix...seroisly every ff game is just the same

your always an emo teenager with a depressing past and u must SAVE THE WORLD with help from an emo chick who in the middle of the game turns out to be a princess(we have only seen that in 300 games...this week.)and u get help from a high pitched girl with no brain and bunny people.....and when u fight the last boss...he dies..and u must fight some random dude..

im so glad that people relized what tripe these ff games are..like all jrpgs they are linear boring, limited, and unorigianal

YOUR GOING DOWN SQUARE ENIX..ALL HAIL BIOWARE
LAUGH WITH ME AT SQUARE AND THEIR EPIC FAIL GAMES..BWAHAHAHAHAHAH

If you ignore the flashy graphics and cinematic, playing Final Fantasy XIII after playing Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age Origins is like going back a generation or two.

Its actually pretty good if you dont think of it as a RPG

I don't think the storyline would appeal to me either.  JRPGs usually tend to take themselves too seriously for how over the top rediculous and implausible their plots are.
The only JRPGs I really like these days are light hearted ones with humorous storylines.  Dragon Quest VIII for instance was fantastic.

I think Final Fantasy X's plot was extremely corny and I hated the art direction.

Honestly, the only JRPG I am looking forward to is Dragon Quest IX which is pretty sad.  During the 1990's let me tell you, JRPGs were my life.  They were literally what I lived for.

Games like Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII...I literally worshipped them and I still hold them in high regard today.

However, Bioware has upped the ante so high though and JRPGs refuse to evolve.  They just take the same stale old ideas and think the solution is to just throw more money at them.

I do like how JRPGs have scantily clad teenage girls.  I had a horrific monkey rash after seeing Rikku in that outfit where you could see her thong.
Bioware kind of tried to go for the whole sweet and innocent look and personality with Liara but she was kind of blue and ugly.

Same Borsch. I loved Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, the Square stuff in the 90s. I haven't finished one since IX though. After X I just lost interest. I tried XII and the GBA games a while back but couldn't get over the grinding. I got so bored I just quit and never touched them again.

This all before I got into BioWare games, wish I had gotten into them wayyyy sooner. If BioWare helped them make a real RPG that would be awesome; more RPGs for the rest of us! Just don't give them the dialog wheel. Barf.

I think Square/Enix outsourcing development of a future Final Fantasy title to Bioware or Obsidian is about the only way my interest in Final Fantasy could be renewed.

You could probably say the same about Dragon Age, although that would be a good thing, as these types of games of such quility are pretty much a thing of the past.

I think where XIII really shines is the combat, the story (the whole thing, the narrative, the acting, the characters) is quite bad, but the combat is always frantic without losing its tactical qualities. Plus it's very pretty and the sandbox content of pulse is quite fun. It feels in many ways to be a single-player MMO or Diablo though, if you don't enjoy killing monsters to get loot to be able to kill bigger monsters to get better loot, then you might not care for FFXIII. I still get some enjoyment out of it.

I've heard the early games were great. I think Square Enix's biggest mistake is letting the series run on so long.

Bioware on the other hand was smart. ME could run on forever with the endless exploration opportunities provided by being set in space, but it is planned to be a trilogy. ME3 will be the last of the ME series.

I stopped reading the OP seriously when he said Square asked for help on Blue Dragon 2. That would be imposible being that Blue Dragon was made by Mistwalker studios.

i've never been able to get into jrpgs, they are just so ridiculous that i find it hard paying attention. riding around on giant chickens and fighting floating Octopi, wth is that. i guess i've just been bombarded with western action heroes too much over the years to care about what japan thinks is intense.

FFXIII was disappointing. The only FF's i really liked were X and XII. I played the online FFXI but found it to be a waste of time after a while.

I'll admit that the Final Fantasy series has its issues, but why do we have to bring the chocobo into this? What did they ever do to you?

As said Final Fantasy and all jrpgs are too over the top; takeing themselves way to seriously. In the end (along with the half naked bunnies and femi-men) the game becomes awefully corny and stupid, that can be said for most RPGs too.

I don't play RPGs or MMOs except for Biowares' and Obsidians games, meh maybe it's just personal taste.

But one thing is certain, weather you like final fantasy or not. Square Enix ruined Supreme Commander 2. And for that "you [they] must DIE!"

Umm so... why play DA?

in DA We have a man who becomes king, Most of the origion stories end tragically and Shale and Zevren are the only ones who don't take the whole thing epically seriously if you don't count several of the codex's.

But hey we're set in a Midevil setting so we got to be better right?

Honestly I like both and they both have their merits and flaws. That's why I buy them and play them. Usually more than once.

My only real annoyance about FF games is that I'm a bit of a collector and they go almost overboard on things to collect in strange and hard to do ways that drives me to boredom trying to get just a few items.

The arguments can really be pointed in both directions so far so can't we quit bashing it all and not just nitpick one group over another? neither side will really win. We enjoy our games and play them for a reason and each person has a little bit different tastes. That's the way the world works. congrats to both companies for tapping into that quite well...

As for Mass Effect 2. I know people that only play things like Halo and Modern Warfare that play Mass Effect 2. Given that fact alone it's definitely going to get more players simply for the fact that people who like such games are generally part of the shooter market which is a much bigger market overall. Again congrats to Bioware for tapping into a different market. that's what business is about.

my favorite Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy 12 which I liked a whole lot because it isn't your typical save the world storyline. I liked how it was about politics and the story was great. I only played Final Fantasy 7,8,10 and 12. 12 was the only one I didn't get bored with. I would like to point out that Bioware games kinda follow the same story. You always play some character that gets involved with some kind of secret group, most of them get wiped out or you play where there are only a few of them. 4 or 5 main story areas.

Crazy as it sounds, I'm actually leaning more and more towards buying it than I was before. I have heard some interesting and contrasting opinions. Plus, I have yet to miss out on a FF. Haven't hated one yet either.

And I second a sequel to The World Ends with You, that was a creative little title.

why would you grace this troll with posts?

also, JRPGs don't evolve because of a catch 22 (i think thats the right word) where they would half to rebuild their fanbase so they rely on the best stories they can to get sales. Bioware does some great character writing, but their plots are nothing special at all. FF games create amazing worlds with easily developed characters (archetypes i know but its not bad) and unique story lines, thier battle mechanics are iffy yes and it does seem to have half-life syndrome (why did walking across town take 5 hours!?) but they are in no way bad

ugh rambling, not sure if i covered everything....

My biggest complaint about and the main reason I usually avoid RPGs is because in some games you spend as much if not more time managing your characters statistics than actually playing the game.
