For crying out loud, so many people already use the DA:O exploit to get a custom avatar (for me it obviously did not work, though I have no idea why)
Why does Bioware not finally allow this? We can freely link pics in our signature, so it cannot be a problem of offensive material being posted. And the site has already implemented everything you need for custom avatars! (Upload your own pics and  the ability to choose an avatar)

This is so ridiculous! You follow a thread and there's five people posting with the same avatar because the selection is so limited. It's confusing as hell, and especially with the DA:O exploit it's really stupid to not simply let everyone have their own avatar. (If you really want limit it to the ones who own a game...)

Just my two cent, really hope some folks here will agree with me and keep this thread alive!

I tried it too. It failed. I really want my own avatar. I guess bioware might have their reasonsthough. I even saw one with edwin from Bg2

I guess it might be something to do with public decency... I'm sure many trolls would love to have a giant man-penis as their avatar, that wouldn't go down well with Bioware and it would be a pain in the arse for the mods to get rid of them all. But i do sympathise with everyone who has to put up with the limited avatars... thats why i'm sticking with my DA character for the time being, until i finally figure out the hacking thingymajig.

But as the OP noted, can't they just do the same by linking pictures in posts?

*looks at avatar* Ups! Still, they said already on the old forums, that they don't allow custom avatars because it might be spammy. So they should control every member that wishes a custom avatar. Which means check thousands or tens of thousands of people wanting an avatar. In other words, it's an incredible amount of work to check if everything is regular. Besides, I am already amazed they didn't threaten us with custom avatars to change them. Not that Boo is offensive, heck, it's a BioWare character!

Yes they can but most of the time they don't know how to do it (thank god). So for Bioware to openly say they are allowing custom avatars is just asking for trouble from trolls across the internet.

Then they have to forbid linking of images in signatures of posts! It is much more common for folks to post offensive images anyway! If Bioware would forbid all custom images on the forum I would agree. But they don't, they allow them for everything except your own avatar. And there they have a pretty big whole in their security which makes it possible anyways.

I would understand if they were afraid of offensive material posted on the forum. But they clearly are not afraid of that, else they simply would not allow custom images in signature or posts!

Thing with the DA:O exploit is... no obvious trolls can simply do it because you have to have the game registered. Beyond that it's quite easy.

Personally I wish the forum had options to turn off the display of avatars and signatures.

yeah I would like to be able to import some custom avatars. The mods on here are fair if people abuse they would take care of it.
