I'm just truly curious as to the selection process for the face of "The Shepard", so to speak.
How was Mark Vanderloo picked for Male Shep?

I'm going to guess they had a bunch of headshots of actors, they liked his face, his price was right and a deal was struck....
That's probably the extent of it. He's a Dutch model, I don't think he had any sort of "in" with the developers.

Think SarEnyaDor (interesting name by the way) has it.

If you can find the ME1 interview video with Derek Watts (Art Director), I think he explains why they chose him for the default Shepard.JnEricsonx wrote...

What's funny is that the more detailed character model they used for the trailers (boo on that, btw) doesn't look anywhere near as much like him as the actual in-game model...

Was FemShep really 100% original?

By being a good looking mudderfugger.

Because he makes the chicks swoon. It's true. BioWare has a swoonometer that they use to pick out their male leaders. Alistar and Vanderloo's HeShep reportedly broke the sensitive device.

Process of elimination, maybe?
Mark Meer, for instance, the fellow who voices the male Shepard-Commander, was the fourth person called in for the job, and he got it.

I noticed that too. In-game Shepard looks like Vanderloo, Promo CGI Shepard looks like, well, Shepard.
