I deceided to go back to DA:O after ME2 kept crashing on me, so I grabed the new patch and set out to finish with my mage...
well lo and behold about 5 min into it I get booted to desktop with a message box saying that daorigins.exe had some error.
I'm currently re-installing and patching back to 1.02 which is what I completed 2 playthroughs on. Has anyone else had issues like this?
Using:
Win7 64bit home premium
i7 Q720
4BG RAM
GTX 260m
all my drivers are up to date, etc. the only thing that changed was the DA:O patch...

Yes, this is a fairly common problem that has been reported with the 1.03 patch and something I've experienced all too often while using it. I recommend sticking with the 1.02 patch, which unfortunately carries with it the long loading bug.

Great, thanks. I've had no issues with long loads on 1.02. I just re-installed the game and started using 1.02 again, no issues at all.
Are there any hopes of getting 1.03 working any time soon?

I'm afraid we will have to wait for patch 1.04 and hope that it fixes the ''holes'' of 1.03. Also, I think patch 1.02 surpasses the others in many ways..I say stick with it until 1.04 is uploaded.

Sorry if this has both been asked and is obvious (I've only recently been able to get back to these boards), but how exactly does one "downgrade" to patch 1.02 after Steam has auto-updated to 1.03?
What I've done is edit the preferences to disable further auto-updates for DA specifically, and have uninstalled the program.
Will reinstalling automatically bring it up to 1.03, or to an original state, after which I'll need to download and manually update 1.02? And if that's the case, where do I find the previous patch?

Damnit - I should have checked tech support before installing the patch.. but I installed it when it was release and didn't get a chance to play until today
. For the first time since release DA:O crashed on me - I could see it coming, it was hiccuping for about 20 minutes prior.

What are bioware playing at, releasing a faulty patch? I cannot believe this. This patch should be pulled until the problems are fixed.

I just rolled back to 1.02a and the game works fine again. Not sure why 1.03 had so many problems. Seems like it's the same kind of issues I'm having with ME2.

The only problem I'm having is that the DLC won't re-download. I'm confident Bioware will make it right.

My problems have mainly been with crashing. Usually this happens during area transitions or while entering or exiting chat. Since the patch I tend to crash more, but if it doesn't crash within the first 30 minutes or so I can play for several hours before lag sets in. I think the lag may be a memory leak of some type since it takes quite a while for it to eat up my system resources.

I have the same problem too. Loading times are much better now, but the game crashes very frequently when I exit an area. Maybe this problem has something to do with solving the problem of long loading times (memory dump problem???)

There will likely be a 1.03a patch much like there was a 1.02a patch after the 1.02 patch.

I've had no problems with the new patch, except when it comes to stealing. I get the "stealing success" message, but no new items in my inventory. The only time it works is when I loot money instead of items. I don't even get the "items received" message anymore after "stealing success," which was a tipoff for me.
I also feel like gameplay gets a lot choppier whenever there is something fire-related onscreen, like rage demons.

I have a graphics problem with new patch - The screen will go black, and I have to reboot computer - I *never* crashed prior to this patch, so I am assuming it has to be the culprit - I updated my vid drivers, and this is a serious crash problem - black screen (no error message) have to unplug comp and plug it back in to reboot. No problems in any other games, etc...just with DAO since 1.03

Sounds like this may be a graphics-releated issue.
Maybe try re-configuring the in-game Video options - set everything to the lowest setting, turn off anti-aliasing for sure. See if the game still crashes regularly. If not, then one-by-one turn up the video settings, see if it affects gameplay. Rinse and repeat.

I don't see how the video settings should have anything to do with it. In my opinion there is no good reason for a game to run stable for over 50 hours worth of playtime but then begin to crash when a new patch is installed. Plus after removal of that patch it goes back to working great....hardley a hardware issue.

Patch 1.03 is broken. For some, it is really bad. For me, it is annoying that I can't pickpocket generic items no more. My game crashes a few times a day. Particularly annoying for long battle cuz I have to redo from start and pray that the game won't crash. Otherwise I would be stuck. I read one player can't complete the game because his game always crashes during the final battle. Oh well.

unfortunate thing is you cannot play awakening without 1.03 so ya just wait tell 1.03a comes out.

I have the crashing problem, too. I can usually play for many hours before getting a crash, but it almost always happens during a long and complicated, and thus major, battle. For such an immersive game, it's rather anticlimatic to have to redo a major plot-related battle. Don't want to go back to 1.02 because the loading times thing was even worse than the crashing. Just adding my voice so hopefully we get Bioware's atttention.

I got crashing issues as well, I remember the extra loading time of 1.02, but even that was withstandable. I would also get the odd crash, but I updated my drivers and the crash was almost none existent. Since I bought Awakening with the dreaded patch 1.03, my computer crash on a regular basis every 10 minutes or so. 1 hour if I am lucky. I thought I had a heating issue or my graphic card was acting up, but after reading so many similar issue with so many people on this forum, I would assume its a common problem and Bioware will look into it.
