No, no. You actually ARE the commander of the Grey Wardens. Which would put you in a bit of an awkward position if Duncan was actually alive. I mean, there can't be 2 epic beards in lead of one order, so the older one must be capitulated.

Unfortunately his beard is just too epic, I'd have to concede my post.

The epic beard lives on...it can never die, it can never die :D   hehehe

DUNCAN IS AT THE FADE ("a metaphysical realm that is part of Thedas yet separated by the Veil"), SO HE IS STILL ALIVE... LIKE RIORDAN AND ALL THE GREY WARDENS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD. THAT'S THE TRUTH. (WE DON'T SEE ANY DEAD BODY OF A GREY WARDEN IN DA:O, DO WE?? NO!)

I AM NOT TALKINRG ABOUT THE FALSE DEMON, I AM TALKING ABOUT THE REAL DUNCAN. WE DON'T KNOW HOW THE GREY WARDENS DIE, DO WE?? YES, KILLING THE ARCHDEMON.

BUT IF THEY DON'T KILL IT, THEY WILL SUVIVE TO FIGHT THE NEXT HORDE OF DARKSPAWN, THAT'S A REAL FACT, THE LIFE OF A TRUE GREY WARDEN. SO DUNCAN IS ALIVE, ACCEPT IT.

You ressurected two Duncan threads to say the same thing? Well hurray for caps lock, at least, holding down shift to type all of that could give you serious cramp.

Actually David Gaider himself said that Duncan was dead, which admittedly is rather weird considering he really did 'seem' to still be alive, given that nobody found his body, the whole 'flash of light' thing that happened just like it did for the PC which suggested he had been rescued like the PC was, etc. Perhaps the original intention was to bring him back and plans got changed for some reason, but its too bad, I think everybody would like to see more of Duncan. You never know, maybe somebody will change their mind and we'll get to see him again at some point after all, even if he comes back as one of those talking-darkspawn (maybe with the Architect?). I for one certainly hope so.

I don't get it.  You don't find his body, so he *MUST* be alive?  Ummm . . you don't find ANY bodies besides Cailan, do you?  Does that mean that, other then the King, *EVERYONE* who was there is alive?  No.

Duncan was last seen laying there gasping while surrounded by Darkspawn, one of whom was running towards him, lining up a HUGE axe with Duncans skull.  Even assuming that guy missed, there were plenty of others to kill him, especially since he was unarmed, having left his sword and dagger in the body of that Ogre.

Why anyone EVER thought he was alive . . . .yea, don't get that.

I just want Duncan's armor,is that too much to ask? I mean come on you give up Cailen's set but not Duncan's, which in my opinion is the best looking in game gear. My character can dress up like the king but not his Gray Warden mentor...what gives?

Because the darkspawn that killed him, liked the armor too and looted it?

Why does everyone call Duncan the PC's grey warden mentor? I mean, yea, he's the guy who recruited you, he's the guy who put you through the joining, but other then that, what, exactly, do you get from Duncan in the game? There is NO other interaction - not his fault, of course, but there it is.

I'm fine with people saying he's Alistair's mentor, but really, if the PC has a grey warden mentor, wouldn't be Alistair?

Tis what Duncan's sword says, to be
fair. "This sword carries a lot of memories of Duncan, your grey warden
mentor"
, or somesuch. I suppose he's your
mentor in that time it takes to travel to Ostagar in the same way
Obi-Wan Kenobi is Luke Skywalker's Jedi Master in that time it takes to
travel to the Death Star. Not long, but still significant.

Yea, it says that, but I don't buy it.
At least in Star Wars, we saw Luke and Ben spend time together - saw him teach Luke things.  I know it's not a 20 minute trip to Ostagar, but everything we learn about grey wardens during that game - the dreams, sensing the darkspawn,, etc - it all comes from Alistair or Flemeth or Riordan.  What, exactly, can we assume Duncan taught us during that trip?

Even a cutscene or codex entry mentioning things Duncan told us would placate me here somewhat, but we get none of that, and are expected to accept that this guy we hardly saw was out mentor and meant a lot to us.  To some, maybe that's enough.  To me, it's far from enough.

Oh god... this is reminiscent of the Spike and end of Cowboy Bebop saga... *sigh*

The only thing I find remotely amusing about the whole thing was upon returning to Ostagar, you get this heart wrenching montage about Cailan and not Duncan... You didn't really get to know either of them that well... but an epic montage for Cailan seemed kind of strange to me.

Remember this dude!? Sure you do! Cue recycled footage! Enter nostalgic music! Feel sad!? Of course you do! And we're done...

Duncan is DEAD

I know he's a really cool guy and most everybody idolizes him, but that's what makes his death so meaningful. Bioware wouldn't and shouldn't cheapen that moment or his memory with cliche plot twists that don't make ANY sense.
