Okay, I beat ME2 (and naturally, everyone survived) and have one question. If I were to do more missions (due to having missed some or through DLC) would the file that would be imported to ME3 (or used for a New Game +) also be updated? (or, on a semi-related note, would it just be most recent save file?) Many thanks.

So, you're asking a detailed question about a game that hasn't been written yet?

Okay, to put it more currently (while still relavent to the question at hand), would completing more missions after beating ME2's main story update the file used for a new game + in ME2?

I might have missed something here myself but I tried a continue game although all my missions had been done before completion just to run around and talk to the surviving crew and visit places to see if they knew what I had done and got no joy at all out of that. No one knows whay you did except your crew and when I tried to do a game two replay off that file I am almost positive the saved game file reloaded only the post game play slot. In other words for that character I had to redo the game and not choose to stay in order to load it for a secind plat starting at lvl 20 in ME2. Hope that helps

bah too many typo's there a second play starting at 30 I meant I also did not discover any new talants and bonuses like one of the loading screens suggests so my conclusion is it's there standing by for ME 3 and if you want to now try a higher seting on a second play. The only advantage I saw with a second play of the same character was that I did not have to buy with minerals any of the weapons so that saved more more time and minerals for the upgrades to tech bio and weap skills which btw do not carrry over on a second play. all I got was 50 k each mineral 200 k creds and my totally build lvl 30 character with all it's weaps and character skills

Not exactly 'update'... EVERY save game file has a flag concerning the endgame status: LivedToFighAgain, OutInABlazeOfGlory or NotFinished. Every file that has the first one can be imported for NG+ in ME2 and most likely into ME3.
There is no ONE endgame save like in ME1. If you have several savegames after the collector base with different completion statuses for example for DLC or N7 missions, you might get different story lines out of each.

have no fear, I'm almost positive that the file you save over in that playthrough will carry over. Any end game file you select will most likely be valid. Theres no real official conformation yet, but the files seem pretty similar to each other so i wouldn't worry.

Then problem solved. Thanks.
