I'm doing my second playthrough now. First was a pure paragon female Shepard.
She:
*saved Wrex
*saved all the colonists from the Thorian.
*Got the obnoxious corporate douche to stand down and let him live.
*Got Toombs to stand down and live.
*Released the Rachni Queen.
*Was nice to the reporter lady.
*Saved the council.
*Choose Anderson.
*Other stuff I forgot.
*Told the lady who wanted to spy on the guy on Noveria to shove off.
Played this character through ME2 as a straight Paragon--except for blowing the crap out of the Krogan windbag. :-)
My current guy I resolved to play more renegade, but I'm such a wuss. So far I've:
*saved all the colonists from the Thorian.
*Blew a big hole in the obnoxious corporate douche---satisfying.
*But! I've been really snarky to some people.
I assume I want to kill the Rachni queen, let the council die, and choose Udina in this playthrough. I will probably once again save Wrex, just because I understand that the default in ME2 is that he dies.
Which choices should one make for maximum versatility in future playthroughs?

The ones you assume would put you on the right track. Punch the reporter - not Emily Wong, but the other one. If you do Bring Down The Sky have the hostages live or die.
There are several ways to screw over that internal affairs lady on Noveria, even a way to get her killed.
Either kill or let the asari scientist working at saren's lab on vermerie live.
either kill the asari that was the thoria thrall or let her help colony.

i actually think udina as counciler will give you more options in 3 because that means anderson is free to be a fleet admiral and totally FIGHT THE REAPERS WITH YOU DAWG

There are a lot of cameo appearances from ME1 decisions and quests. But not many effect the game at all.
As far as I can tell, about the only thing that can actually be missed game play wise in ME2 is if Conrad doesn't show up (due to weirdness in ME1 flags, I don't know what actually causes this), and you probably won't get the message from your old friend on Noveria if you do things a certain way (which has no effect on ME2, but certainly implies something for ME3). Oh, and I suppose of you get Gianna killed, she won't show up for her 1 minute assignment in ME2.

Great thoughts, guys! Appreciate it. I love the "FIGHT THE REAPERS WITH YOU DAWG," Doc. Could have written that myself.
