Yah - I'm that frustrated with it. It's become an obsession, not because I'm that anxious to play the game, but I can't figure out  wth is wrong.

I get the checkerboard looking freeze. Anyone old enough to remember the regular nintendos? Remember when you put a game in and it needed to be blown on - the screen would have weird squares but you could make out the picture? It does that, but much smaller squares. The video freezes, sound continues on, screen goes black after a few seconds. Then I have to manually kill the computer.

It did it every great once in awhile towards the begining, almost always during conversations. Then it started doing it much more often. Now I'm stuck half way through Garrus's loyalty mission and cannot play 10 seconds in without the crash.

I've searched the hell out of these forums and others, found lots of others with this specific problem, but have never seen a fix.

Here's my system specs:

Intel quad core 3.0gig
XFX 8800gtx
3gig RAM
Integrated sound
Vista ultimate 32

I have the most recent video, sound, and chipset drivers.
All of my video settings are set to application controlled.
I DO NOT CRASH ANY IN BORDERLANDS OR FALLOUT 3
or any other game.
I have every "important" and optional windows update available. All of them.
My temps are excellent
I have tried dropping my graphics properties to the bare minimum.
I have tried ensuring absolutely everything else on the computer was killed.
I have reinstalled.
Surely someone out there has had this problem and fixed it...

I'd happily throw someone 20 over paypal if they helped me out here. It's starting to really ****** me off...

Thanks.

What PSU? 196.75 nvidia drivers will and can cause damage to your card. Have you tested each stick of ram using memtest?
Even thought you dont crash with other games, doesn't mean there isn't an issue. Also try and use the physc that gets installed from the game, not the ones from the web.
Have you patched the game to 1.01 and used any DLC?

I'm actually using 196.21 at the moment for the graphics drivers

I've also set the processor affinity and deleted my installed codecs since last posting.

I did a jump test on the memory that ran clean, I have patched to 1.01 but not used any DLC

just tried again, crashed within a 10 seconds. Core temps all below 50, GPU temp 47. I have some serious cooling btw.

PSU is silverstone 1000w.

Usually when you get checkerboard patterns on your screen that means your graphics card is f**ked. Happened to a roommate of mine and his 8800.
