IN THE MEANTIME IN BIOWARE'S NUKE-PROOF UNDERGROUND BUNKER:
Christina: People are complaining about the mining minigame on the forums.
Casey: Um, that's good. Serves 'em right. They should have loved the Mako.
Christina: Lol! So... what do we do now?
Casey: Mmmmm... Can we make something worse than the mining minigame?
Christina: I am not sure. I thought we did our best last time...
Casey: Then try even harder this time, damnit! You know the drill: we are not here to finish it, we're here to make 'm regret!

EDI: Shepard, your Mako is ready to be deployed. It is equipped with all the proper tools to scan the terrain for minerals. Your suit also has the ability to sense the same minerals, so you may do this in combat as well.Zulu_DFA wrote...

Out of the squadmates from ME1 and ME2, only Liara is alive at all possible Shepard-lives endings of ME2. Everyone else can end up dead during the course of the game. (EDI and Joker are alive, too, but not really squadmates.)davidt0504 wrote...

So for anyone that survived in your game who could die, you'll likely end up with a bit-part in the next game like Alenko, Williams and Wrex had.
... unless you can work out the mechanics of 65,534 possibilities for surviving former squadmate combinations as part of your team and keep them from being cookie-cutter drones.

yeah except giving us an entire new squad renders 90% of ME2 pointless. You know this already, but that number of combinations is completely irrelevant to the way they piece the game together.

TBH, they went through the entire
game with the whole premise of assembling the "ultimate team". It
wouldn't make much sense if they didn't carry over at least a few of
them into the next game.
But the way ME2 ended i thought as well. But there are some people that only have #2 surviving squadmates at the end. so im wondering how they will handle that...
-They may have you make it through ME3 with only 4-5 people if there are no new characters. OR
They either will introduce maybe 2-4 new squadmates to make up the numbers for those that have only 2 people alive.
So the numbers may be: ME1(#2-3Liara,Ash/Kiaden,Wrex) + ME2 (#2) + ME3 (#2-4, combat balance/story focused characters)=6-9
I would hope that if you loss a character a secondary character we've already seen would step up to replace the fallen eg- If Tali died A Quarian would replace her. If shes alive you could chose who you wanted or you wouldn't even know so&so was recruitable.
dramatic difference!? yes please

Feel free to explain just how the way they piece the game together makes 65K+ team-member combinations irrelevant.epoch_ wrote...

If you can pull it off and still have a relevant story involving them as squad members in ME3, we'd all love to hear it. (I'm sure BW would, too.)

They've always been drones since ME1, having either ambiguous dialogue or entirely different viewpoints recorded for every situation:ReggarBlane wrote...

Tali's Split Personality
Ashley Williams Reunion
Kaidan Alenko Reunion
I wish I could find the video of Ashley agreeing and then disagreeing to wiping out the Rachni. She's just like the Turian Councilor - disagrees with everything you do sometimes.
I'm not saying they should bring everyone back as squadmates, but I do believe at least half of them should be squadmates, and the other half cameos. The ones that can/will become cameos seem to be relatively clear.

Actually, they do in dialog. If two team members need to say something, in a dialog (which happens enough in both ME1+2) you have to account for every team member combination.Onyx Jaguar wrote...
They only have interactions with Shepard really. Thane has absolutely no effect on Tali. Garrus has no effect on Mordin. Ashley has no effect on Samara. Liara has no effect on Zaeed

I don't think its as difficult as you're making it sound. In fact it would be more difficult to bring back the characters as only cameos i.e. the ME1 LI plus Wrex. Why? Because then your talking about each one of those cameos has to have an alternate story written to replace the squad character's role. I think the fact that the only way you can import an ME2 save to ME3 (in other words in order for shepard to survive) you need to have two squad members survive the suicide mission. This to me points that ME3 will pull in your squad from ME2. I think its safe to say bioware is not stupid, they have made some of the most acclaimed and beloved games in the industry and these games have always been about story. It would be a horrible story to remove all the squadies from ME2 from the limelight in ME3, these are the characters of the ME trilogy. They are now just as integral to the story as Shepard. They have said the reason they kept some of the ME1 characters out, namely LIs, is because they needed them to be alive in 100% of people's playthroughs. The devs have said that there will be consequences for cheating on your ME1 LI. The way they handled the ME1 characters for 1 game is not enough data to show a pattern that could carry into ME3.ReggarBlane wrote...

Everyone just says some stock lines. Very few characters have interaction with each other. Maybe a couple the entire game but other than that everyone says pretty much the same thing.
Ecael's post shows pretty much how ME works, you can look at the video of Tali arguing with herself and see that the game's cast are just plot devices during missions.

I always assumed they were playing Devil's Advocate. They're just trying to provide insight as to why you would pick the other option.

Actually, they don't. Like I said, they are voiced to have ambiguous dialogue in ME2. They can either say the first squadmate's lines, or the second squadmate's lines.ReggarBlane wrote...

Biotic God - All squadmate dialogue
Combinations go out the window in this case, all you need is 2 lines from each squadmate for specific situations and Shepard stating something that will have no overall effect on anyone's personality.
