I didn't like the ME:1 loot system. It was absurd that you could only use four weapons, and yet could carry dozens in your magic flesh pockets, not to mention sets of armor, modifications, omni tools and implants....
Agreed. I prefer the streamlined system, I hated spending time looting and sorting through inventory clutter.

In terms that I'm looking for we've been promised a true RPG and now I hope that BW delivers.
BTW: How could anyone be surprised that folks wouldn't like mining and scanning for N7 missions and the like????

Oh joy, I'll be forced to scrounge every single level for weapon mods and guns, and constantly have to change the armor and weapons of my team, and give them proper weapon mods on a constant basis just to play my game again, because apparently without such a great feature, games cannot tell a story!
Well, hopefully they'll strike a happy medium between "ugly mess of loot" and "three weapon options is PLENTY, isn't it?" I wouldn't mind if ME2 had actually forced me to pick which weapon I was using carefully for different missions, rather than pretty much using the same weapons until I got an upgraded one, and then just using that upgraded one for the rest of the game.

I'm sorry, but that option is the one that doesn't make sense. They'd have to write and record dialog for characters that the vast majority of players will never see because they kept their squad alive.Quaay wrote...
If you killed off someone in ME2 they can be replaced with someone you've probably already met. That's how I would hope it would work anyway. Tali died? You get Kal'Reegar. Miranda died? You get her sister avenging her death. Mordin dies? His brilliant 16 yr old nephew takes his place. Aria could join as a biotic replacement for Samara/Morinth. Thane dies? His son joins your squad. Just be open to the possibilities and expect every squad member thus far to be available in ME3. Otherwise you get angry fans that won't buy the game because their favorite wasn't included.
If you lose someone, they won't be there and there won't be anyone to fill that 'slot'. You'll have fewer squad members to choose between. (But you'll always have at least two because you had to save at least one for Shepard to survive, and one or two of your surviving ME1 characters can return.) That's part of the 'big consequences' you'll face for not properly preparing for the 'suicide mission' - fewer teammates for the finale.

I hope so, Mass Effect 1 managed to do both.BobbyTheI wrote...

An ugly mess of mostly useless inventory items to sell or omni-gel, while at the same time your Engineer, Adept or Sentinel Shepard could only use one type of pistol throughout the entire game (at least it doesn't need reloading though!)

I agree with you. With all due respect to anyone that lost a squad member on your initial playthrough, that's what NG+ is for. You should be penalized for the death of a team mate. Everyone talks of big consequences for your actions, there they are..you just lost..well..generic remarks during a mission

This is a silly way to look at the problem. Bioware needn't implement 65,534 different sets of dialogue to deal with ~20 characters. The vast majority of dialogue from each party member is independent of other party members. Therefore, Bioware would simply have to implement ~20 sets of dialogue + a few squadmate-to-squadmate interactions (Garrus and Tali on the stairs in the Citadel for instance).ReggarBlane wrote...
Out of the squadmates from ME1 and ME2, only Liara is alive at all possible Shepard-lives endings of ME2. Everyone else can end up dead during the course of the game. (EDI and Joker are alive, too, but not really squadmates.)davidt0504 wrote...
well if bioware reads these things, then please give us the same characters from me1 and 2. Don't give us a whole bunch of new squad mates, infact i would prefer you don't give us any new ones. Let us use the ones from me2 and maybe some from 1. This is the end, the time to reveal characters is over.
So for anyone that survived in your game who could die, you'll likely end up with a bit-part in the next game like Alenko, Williams and Wrex had.
... unless you can work out the mechanics of 65,534 possibilities for surviving former squadmate combinations as part of your team and keep them from being cookie-cutter drones.

I couldn't possibly care any less about which characters are returning. However, I do know that many of them (if not all of them) will return in ME3 to play an important role, and some will definitely be squadmates, killable or not.

I'm pretty sure they will be, why would they spend the time/money creating those DLC's for those characters for ME2 just to not have them return for ME3?

I hope so. I've been replaying ME a lot lately and the inventory system is way too tedious there. SOME variety is quite alright, but I don't want to spend 15 minutes converting X number of things into omni-gel again.

So we will get a new squad and the whole but but we spent the second game makeing a team is lame. Now if they had not went with the any and everyone can die in the last mission I could see it happening. No they do not need to make new lolity missions I know most of the ME2 fans never played or hated the first one so much they forgot everything about it. There were no lolity missions was simply we going to kick azz want to come?
I do not care for any ME2 chacter and only Liara from ME1. It would be nice if they focused on the story and there would not be any need to for people to assume why something was done or bring out the but the third movie in a trilogy always sucks.

Really it is that hard for anyone to figure out. The DLC is all about the $money$ sometimes the simpliest answer is the right one.

I hope they don't bring back squad equipment. Each character having their own unique body and attire is far better than having Liara have the exact same proportions as every other human-type female in the galaxy, Unique armor allowed Miranda to have the ass, Tali to have the hips, Samara to have the cleavage, Jacob to have the abs (for the ladies), etc. I want the important characters in ME3 to be unique from head to toe.

Unfortunately true. I would have liked more squad interaction in ME2 and the dialog between Garrus and Tali on the Citadel proves it is possible.Zulmoka531 wrote...

That would be more problematic for ME3 as the possible squad losses mean recording dialog for all the possible squad combinations would be wasted effort to a certain extent.

Why do people keep saying squad combinations? Do you think that for releasing the Kasumi DLC, they had the other 11 voice actors return to play a part? No, because the characters are modular, they are designed to 'appear' to interact with other squadmates, but taking them out entirely would not affect the game at all. That would be more problematic for ME3 as the possible squad losses mean
recording dialog for all the possible squad combinations would be
wasted effort to a certain extent.

I can't believe I even have to explain this. You are so deluded and looking to see what you want to see, that you're treating every item as if it's a subset of "listen to feedback". Listening to feedback is one item in that bubble, weighed equally against the other items. It is not the dominant tenant.Ecael wrote...

Nowhere in this presentation does she even mention the squadmates, other than to say that you can map their abilities to the D-pad for use in real-time. You know why? BECAUSE IT'S NOT HER CONCERN! The fate of the squad is up to the writers and no one else. This chick is lead GAMEPLAY designer and this presentation was about GAMEPLAY and it was aimed at DEVELOPERS.
Because this was intended for developers, I'm sure little consideration was paid to how a lunatic would interpret it. I'm sure she'll clarify for those that need clarifying at some point. If she can peel her face out of her palms long enough to tweet about it.

I apologize for the confirmation bias. Yes, it is directed toward developers, and thus the squadmates themselves is out of her control. Norman tweets about a FemShep DLC which turns out to be the Kasumi DLC, so it's difficult to take her word when it comes to pleasing the fans.
Mood swings... I'm starting to turn into The Angry One (No offense, Angry!).
Note: I'll still continue to argue in favor of any 6-8 squadmates returning though... I just won't use this as any kind of evidence
