I am playing a Elf Mage.
I am Lothering with Alistair, Morrigan, and my dog. The Rogue cleric (Leliana) offered to join my
party.
Questions:
Do I need a rogue to complete the game? If so and I do not add Leliana, will I have
an option to add another one later?
If I drop Alistair, will this affect the game play, eg. do I
need him for information, quests, etc.?
Also, will the party control the quests that are given and the final outcome of the game?
Thanks
P.S.
IMHO. I like the dog
+ Alistair as tanks, with myself healing and Morrigan dealing damage. However, I also like the dialogue between the
human characters, so I wonder Leliana
will add some depth to the game.
in Lothering and need Party Help

As far as I know you don't NEED a rogue to complete the game, although it would help alot... with chests and the like...
I'm pretty sure you every character has their own "personal quest" so you would need Alistair to get that one, but the only times you actually require Alistair, or any other character, the game forces you to put them in your party
Edit: I forgot to mention you do infact get a second rogue later on, although he/she is not as good at opening locks

I just take all of the Companions available and choose who goes in my actual questing party as I proceed...the others stay at camp.
You won't be able to unlock chests (and some doors) without a properly spec'd rogue though.

You'll have a hard time completing Lothering properly if you don't have Leiliana in the party.

Plus, opening chests and doors gives you and the rest of your party experience, however small an amount.
(PS: As a mage my party is usually: myself as a 'Damager,' Wynne and a 'Healer,' Leliana to open locks, and as an archer, and Alistar as a tank. Dog is good, but he doesn't have much armor and doesn't have many tactics slots, either. You could have yourself as a healer, Morrigan as a dmaager Leliana as an archer and to open things and Alistair as a tank, possibly.)
It's up to you, of course. =)

You do not require a rogue to complete the game. Done 2 playthrus without unlocking a single door/chest using deft hands.
