Yes I agree I enjoy do runs with just me and my dog so I feel like that lone warrior with just a faithful hound at my side. Was fun and better then Fable 2's dog.Diogo Gomez wrote...
Yes removing the Mabari from the game was a really sucky decisions from Bioware in my opinion... I mean... The Mabari is the only charatcher that has no reason to not travel with us... I mean it's the Mabari it's supposd to be connected to the warden or something WTH doens't it come with us?? That's the only thing I have to complain with Awakening...

This.
Oghren was way much cheaper.

The problem is people could've rejected or killed the mabari making it a difficult companion to make
People could have also have sabotaged his quest making it impossible for he and Felsi to get back together. They could have made him hate them so much that he quit the party permanently. And yet he still somehow manages to get back together with Felsi and have a child whom he names after the warden. Umm, yeah...somehow I doubt avoiding inconsistencies was the chief concern here.
As far as bringing dog back is concerned, given that he doesn't require much in the way of "dialog", it really wouldn't be that hard. I have no doubt that someone will create a mod to make him a companion fairly quickly. The main hurdle would be in putting some time into expanding his skill tree (and items) to scale him up to level 35, and then testing out the new skills to ensure they are neither underpowered nor overpowered.

A shame. Really liked Dog a lot. Hopefully he gets mentioned in Awakening.

I think its the animations taking too much time and resources to do. Dogs dialouge animations were unique so it makes sense from a time sort of view I guess. Although at times I feel dog was underplayed and they didn't have any real good gear for him they should have stuff thats the equivalent to Shales crystals in power.Anyroad2 wrote...
Oh right, new skills. Thats probably the biggest reason Dog isnt returning as a companion. At least, I'd put money on that being the reason anyway.

Remember, in the beginning, Rabbit gets tainted and only by your valiant efforts of plucking flowers is he abled to be healed. However, from what I understand from the Kennel Master and speaking with the Ash Warrior Leader, the Grey Wardens say that the taint will 'eventually' kill (or possibly corrupt) an animal, even if they aren't immediately affected.

I hate to mentioned it, but it's possible Rabbit didn't actually live to Awakening.

That dog. The human noble already comes with their own dog, non-corupted. He may have simply croaked due to old age, if they killed it off.

It's naive to think that with all the biting, the noble's dog never ingested enough darkspawn blood to become tainted.

It reminds me of the pre-movie "it takes only one call to ruin a movie" thing they run in many theatres where the agent is negotiating on behalf of the chimp actor for residuals. And what's even funnier is the agent negotiating was the station doctor from Deep Space Nine.
I always figured the "voice" bits for Dog was the pet of somebody on the design team. Dog's pleading whine reminds me of my aunt's dog.
Well -- if he's dead (no preplayers have said yet whether or not that's so) -- Mabari bond with their owners for life, but I don't think it works the flip way for the owners. You can always get another dog (in another expansion). Or maybe a new pet. People seem to be rooting for a griffin.
If he's not -- well, again, nothing's ruling out a return.
