I have seen a few threads where people have claimed that it is unlikely or nearly impossible for all squad mates to return, either because of the number of squad mates and/or the possbility that most of them could be dead.

Not only is it not impossible, it's not such a daunting task as some people would make it. Mass Effect 1 & 2 required monumental effort and talent to begin with; Bioware is fully capable of having fan favorites return as squad mates or at the very least more than cameos.

As we've learned from Lead Gameplay Designer Christina Norman's comments on how fans reacted to Mass Effect 2, Bioware listens to its fans. And what do the fans want? I'll let these polls speak for themselves.

I'll gladly answer any questions about my position on squad mates returning. Would like to hear your feedback on the subject.
If your response has spoilers, please post it in the spoiler allowed version of my thread: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/1715314

Nice. Another thing I would really like to know is whether any of the decisions made in ME1 that didn't seem to bear fruit within ME2's time frame will prove themselves in ME3.

No they shouldnt return.

Not only because of the amount of money and effort involved needed to do them well, but also it needs to be done now to actually make good on the claim that certain squadmates were "saved".

The ME2 squad sucked. Bioware couldnt even manage a 10 squad minimum without letting it ruin character development. How on earth could they manage a near 15+ optional squad?

No, ME3 needs to sideline most of the ME2 squad, bring back a few old faces, add a few new ones, and try and repeat ME1s squad situation, not ME2s.

Something is seriously wrong when, in a game where "squadmates are the focus of focus of the game" (an incorrect statement - combat is the focus of ME2) half of the friggin squad wont talk to you because you wont/cant romance them.

I'm sensing some "Liara wasn't a squad mate in ME2" bitterness here.

The ME3 squad doesn't even need to be ~15 for ME1 and ME2 squad mates to return. You could conceivably throw out the characters who have got other things to do and usually go solo, like Zaeed.

Wrex for ME3 over grunt any day of the week both would be amazing though to krogens got my back FTW
I also would love to see your ME1 love interest return to your cause who ever you may have picked.
Garrus has to come back he is like shepards main man
Joker of course
Legion would be awesome and I wouldn't mind seeing more of jack and jacob

I think zaeed would come back I see him leaving in the begaining i=of the game but returning later on for the thrill sort of a han solo sort of move

It is a bit blatant how much of the ME2 is the worst game ever ire would suddenly dissapear if Liara had been a squaddie.

I thought you were going to provide proof or reasoning instead of polls that show what people want. There's nothing here that made me even rethink my opinion that it is highly unlikely that all squad mates will return. :|

And fans also wanted all ME1 characters to return as recruitable for ME2 and your choices to actually change something, but that didn't happen did it?

LOL. Comment withdrawn. Reading that other thread now. Just make one! I assumed they were both identical.

They will do cameos instead of plot NPCs like Wrex I'm afraid. If they choose a few favourite NPCs as squaddies, some will be left out and their fans will complain like in DA:A about Oghren.
So unless they all have a 2k+ page fan thread, it's unlikely.
Or just make a squad limit and give you the choice to fill the spots with your favourites. :wizard:

You don't know they'll do that. Kaidan/Ashley and Liara were not recruitable due to the fact that Bioware wanted them to survive to ME3 so they can be squad mates and have large roles.

I suspect that some of Shepard's squadmates will return while others will have cameos, similar to ME2 (Garrus and Tali return to the squad, while Wrex, Kaiden/Ashley, and Liara are encountered but not recruitable). Which ones these will be I can't predict.

I find it intriguing that if you affirm your friendship with Samara, she says she'll come for you when you need her, but if you try to push a romance with her, she doesn't. Possible effect on her recruitability in ME3? I'd like to think so.

Bioware said themselves that they wanted Ashley Kaidan and Liara to survive through ME2 so they can have large roles in ME3. That leads me to suspect that they will indeed be squad mates.

What's your source for this? It's be awesome if you're right.

I assumed they gave everyone who could die or was a potential love interest in me1 a very minor role (along with all other me1 decisions ) while giving garrus and tali (both unchangable by shep in me1) a major one, because it was just too computationally expensive to do it any other way.
I glanced at your explanation on your other post, but if it was that easy, why the above? just a coincidence?

I hadn't actually heard an announcement on this, but I assumed it might be the case.  Which of the ME2 squadmates will return, though, I don't know and can't really guess.  Two things do bear consideration, however.  The first is that new squadmates will need to be introduced to fill any potential holes in your team left by deaths during the suicide mission.  The second is that with the return of squadmates from ME1, the potential to have everyone survive the suicide mission in ME2, and any new squad members introduced in ME3, Shepard is either going to have a very large team (likely with some redundant members), or some squadmates from ME2 will be removed regardless of whether they survived, or some mechanic for limiting the number of recruits will be introduced.

You have some great polls there, Collider. :)

I am in the camp if wanting them all back. I have done more than enough recruitment and loyalty missions. It's time to tell the stories around these characters. ;)

Just as long as Garrus,Wrex,Lee John,Samara and Liara are in the game and are done well I'll be happy.
