I think that's fair, Sarah. I never felt that the inventory itself was the problem. The cluttering of a huge number of crappy items in it was a problem. If removing the inventory is the solution to that problem then I scratch my head. Accessing your stuff now isn't very convenient and not very realistic. Sure, it is great that I have an armory aboard the Normandy now, but I also seem to have an armory throughout the galaxy wherever I go: From a Blue Suns' hideout to a quarian planet we never set foot on.CoS Sarah Jinstar wrote...
Theres a big difference between finding a middle ground and going to the complete oposite side of the spectrum with systems. Most of the big changes that people were upset with were exactly that. (removal of skills, dumbed down inventory etc)Besetment wrote...
Pretty much everything that was changed in ME2 was requested by fans. Now it turns out that some folks think they went too far but they would get just as much criticism for not going far enough. The GDC presentation showed the dilemma quite well when it says that small changes can snowball and completely change the way the game plays, even alienate fans. They wanted to make the shooting element better in ME2 and lets face it, it sucked in ME1. But in doing that it required big core changes to the way combat worked.
What we got I reckon was probably the best you are going to get without alienating too many new players and old fans. At least, I can't think of very many developers that could have pulled off that kind of coup what with the standard of videogame production being the highest its ever been.
Had Bioware attempted to meet people halfway I doubt there would have been half as much complaining.
Perspective to people thinking EA will ruin the ME series.

I think Ubisoft is the worst big company at this time.
Yep, they release ****ty ports, upload cracks on their own site and now there new protection crap from Assassin Creed 2. Also Rainbow Six Vegas 2 sucked a bit because of the online bug (sound loop). That bug is still not fixed after 2 years.
As long Bioware has the lead in the Mass Effect series i am not that worried.
Yep, my hatred for Ubi comes from personal experiences mainly, the quick abandonment of their games support wise. They basically shoved a middlefinger for R6 Raven Shield's fans when it was still a new game.
A more recent one was Far Cry 2 support, they didn't even fix the save corruption problem which happened to many gamers frequently, though I haven't checked on the situation in a while...
And now this Assassin's Creed thing, damn.
And that Vegas 2 problem you're telling about. Damn.

Yeah, from what I've heard it sounds like Dead Space 2 will be more like Halo than Resident Evil, they said they want the player to feel "badass" while playing it, which is complete garbage.
If I wanted to feel badass, there are plenty of other games for that, when I play Dead Space, I wanna be scared ****less!
This is why I think Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was a step in the right direction.
Anyone who's played Clock Tower knows that the scariest Survival Horror is one inwhich the player cannot fight back against the force that pursues them.
Also, I completely agree with the people who say Ubisoft is worse than EA.
Anyone here ever played Red Steel for Wii?
That's why I laugh when people say it's a shame Ubisoft is done making Wii games...
They'll keep making their Imagine & Petz shovelware games for Wii, and all the ignorant people can keep on pretending that Ubisoft made No More Heroes.

As mentioned before, ridiculuous cuteness of Spore... sucks.
Not enough naked side-boob in ME2... sucks.
Not enough multiplayer in BC2 sucks... (really, the singleplayer for BF is a ducken' joke).
And so on.
If everyone crapped the same poop, we might talk, EA.
P.S. Exaggerated on purpose.

Be happy that EA's douchebaggery pales in comparison to Activision.
Yeah, Activision is actually the new most evil publisher.
Their chef actually said that the working environment has to be based on fear and permanent stress and that there may not be any fun in making video games. He actually said that!
And thats when games have no soul. What an ****, someone should punch him in the face.
I don't get the mentality that means the lesser of two evils isn't evil.
Whether EA is the worst or runner-up they are still taking a **** on gamers, neutering IPs, turning out generic crap, and proving with ideas like Project $10 that it is about how they can make the next biggest profit not how they can make the next biggest game.
So on noes EA, your business plan is showing.

And it was a great game! People may criticize the horror, the setting, or the story, but it's truly how survival horror should play like. Control was smooth, shooting was fun, and being able to sprint in *any direction??* EVERYONE should be doing that now. After I beat Dead Space I tried to play RE5 and it just felt so unbelievably archaic and out-dated.
Since then things have pretty much been getting better, and it's good to see EA not being as herp-derp as it was in the past. I still disagree a lot with what they do but I can no longer pin them as the ****s of Gaming.
That's for Ubisoft : )

Both left 4 dead games, dead space, mirror's edge, army of two, Mass Effect (1 and 2) Burnout, Rock Band, Crysis are all examples of games that were part of EA publishing, but letting others make the game.Besetment wrote...
Ehh, EA gets a bad wrap but the past few years they have been quality. They let Dead Space out at a time when everyone thought that being rated R and not being Grand Theft Auto was a recipe to ruin. Dead Space turned out to be one of the best games released that year with genuine innovation in hud design that is now pretty much everywhere.
Their DICE studio made Mirror's Edge which is class and highly original. EA is huge though and as with huge multinationals, if they see small developers making stuff they like, they just buy them out completely. But the fact they appear to allow the likes of Mirror's Edge to even see the light of day makes me think that things are not so bad.
Hell all the EA Partners guys (even some old indie developers like John Carmack from ID) have good things to say about them these days. Bioware seems happy and enjoying their biggest success in the industry since it started. The Valve guys seem happy with the EA connection after that disaster with Vivendi.
I don't think they are the bad guys anymore dude.

With that said, I think Piracy is actually a blessing to the gaming industry. Developers now know that if they continue to put out garbage people arent going to buy it. Unless your company has respect, most people will 'try the game' before buying it anyway. People do want to support the hard working men and women that put out these game, we've just been screwed over so much that we dont trust anyone.
IMO stop with the DRM and protection and release demos. Most of the developers did this to themselves by released watered down cookie cutter games that nobody wants to buy. For the most part, quality games are still purchased by the mass and Bioware just proved that with DAO and ME.

That's not exactly accurate or fair to Visceral.
Yes they did use the word "badass" but they aren't going to make it "MW2 style." They're changing the pacing of the game. Instead of 100% onslaught of unrelenting necro's that nearly always feels overwhelming and provides a ton of anxiety for the player, they are adding an ebb and flow (some peaks and valleys) to it.
Sometimes "when you find a stash of ammo or a new weapon that decimates a certain enemy type" you'll be able to have brief moments of "badass" where you don't feel so overwhelmed. There will also be tension releasing moments interspersed between chapters.
They specifically told their DS fans not to worry about the game turning into a blockbuster power fantasy (aka CoD), there will just be more places for players to "come up for air."

At the moment Ubisoft has to take the cake. Companies need to realize two things. One: Piracy doesnt just happen on the PC and Two: Piracy cant be stopped. The only thing Ubisoft has done with their recent crap is punish the people that actually bought their product. Why cant these companies understand that if you put out a quality product PEOPLE WILL BUY IT! look at dragon age and mass effect. When people respect your work they buy it. When you screw your customers over like Ubisoft just did you not only ruin your reputation as a developer, but also alienate potential buyers due to fear of simply buying a broken product.
With that said, I think Piracy is actually a blessing to the gaming industry. Developers now know that if they continue to put out garbage people arent going to buy it.
