So I'm curious, how do you kill that thing? xD
Playing on normal, the game's difficulty thus far (at level 13 now) has been mostly fairly well balanced, there have been a few challenges, but nothing murderous.
But this spider thing, I could take it's hitpoints down by a little more than a half, but then I'd inevitable run out of mana for healing, mana potions, and consequently healing potions.
So I'm wondering, did I miss something? Compared to the rest of the fluffy ride that thing is a brick wall. xD
Some special damage type? Potions hoarded since the beginning of the game? What works?
And yeah, though I utterly dislike doing so, I did flip the difficulty switch down a notch and then nailed the darn thing with barely needing a heal. But I'm still curious, since I probably will someday, with this character or another, be seeing more of that thing.
So... What do you do to an corrupted spider queen boss?

I used salves and potions. With Morrigan I started with a blizzard+storm combo that kept the spider at bay while receiving damage, then used ranged stuff like lightning, bolts, freezing, I used lyrium potions when mana was low.
I didn't attack the spider from the bridge side, I walked around the rocks and fought the 2 emissaries then turned left and walked slowly to spawn the queen. When you spawn the queen, 2 regular corrupted spiders will spawn close to you, but you can kill them with melee weapons.
I had my character (a melee oriented warrior), Alistair and Leliana shoot special arrows and bolts with damage bonus (filth, fire, cold, etc...). Morrigan and Leliana went down, eventually, due to their lower number of hitpoints, but the 2 warriors kept firing and using lots of poultices and finally I killed it. I had to try 6 times.
My first time, I chose to send my 2 warriors to finish her off in melee, terrible mistake, she's even worse in close range, so keeping the distances and healing from the venom spit is the way to go. Did I say you'll need a lot of health poultices? If your characters have tons of hitpoints, it'll really help. My characters were at level 12 and 13 and it was very hard.

Crushing Prison + ranged damage. I also advance very slowly into that area, in order to spawn the smaller spiders a few at a time before she appears.

It took me forever to beat it, but in the end I ended up having Morrigan cast inferno in the area, then started running all the way to the back end on the other end of the cavern. Waited there for the corrupted spiders to bottle neck some, had Morrigan cone of cold and took them out, then sat back with bows taking shots at the Queen and casting distance spells at her. It took a while, but that was the only way I myself could beat her

Petrify works wonders, as do most of the stun abilities. She's quite vulnerable to them and you can keep her stunned long enough to knock her health down substantially.

1) I fall back and hold the passage. Unless you're facing battles with loads of archers, it's almost always better to hold a chokepoint than fight where you can be flanked. My party was Ogren, Alistair, Leliana and PC as an assault mage w/ base heal capability. We were lvl 13-14 at the time, and handled it pretty easily on normal.
2) Save my magic for when I'm facing the Queen, or when the fighters are in real danger. Slam the Queen with stuns/paralyzation/AoE root effects when she's far away or winter's grasp up close. Hit her really hard quick though if she does her 'web climbing' and drops down in the back of your party. If you do, she'll climb back up and run away.
3) Conserving magic also allows you to keep your mage from getting threat-crushed, which will allow you to heal effectively.
