Every time I try to install Awakening I get told the installation has failed. This happens right after it attempts to install the 1.03 patch, and then begins to work on ep1_core.rar.

The last message I see before the fail modal is:
Preparing to extract ep1_core.rar (this may take several seconds)

I have a fresh install of Origins patched up through 1.03.

Anyone else have this problem? Any fixes? Buy a new disc?

It's not supposed to be out till tuesday so whatever sold you on the flip side, must suck can't play a pirated or pre leased illegal copy

I got a copy from target friday, i just kinda asked them for it

Nothing illegal about it, Target has them on display already. Thinking maybe there is a network callback home blocking the "premature" install. Will wait until Tuesday to see if I need to return this bad copy or not.

I'm having the same issue with a fresh install of Origins and with the 1.03 patch.

Edit: Fixed it after running compatability mode for XP on the setup.exe in the root of the disc.

having the same problem - it goes to intall patch 3 which i already have and then ep1_core.rar for a split second then tells me it has failed

Doing a fresh install on DA:O now and then will try to install it again. I will let you know how that works without getting the patches. And by the way, Josh, it's completely fine if we pick it up at a retail store that has already released it. I also picked mine up from Target today. It's the retailers fault for displaying it, not the consumer.

Fixed, had to do a fresh install. So, fails with patch 1.03, works without it.

Wow, ok it ran into an error again but now I tried the compatibility mode for Windows XP and it seems to be working.

Can anyone give "step by step" for "compatibility mode for Windows XP"? Oddly it's crashing on my Windows XP but works fine on my other computer with Windows 7.

Can't install at all here. Running Vista Ultimate. I tried all compatibility modes, and nada.







I can't seem to get past installing patch 1.03. Tried patching it seperately and that also fails.







Did i just spend $50 on an expansion that doesn't work?

Whoa that's crazy...

I'm running Windows XP SP3

I had copied the CD to my desktop in a single folder named "DragonAge" (I don't know if this step was necessary)

I right clicked "Setup.exe" and clicked "Properties"

Then clicked on the tab "Compatibility"

Then checked "Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for" and selected "Windows 2000"

Then clicked OK.

Then doubleclicked Setup.exe, clicked all the next's and typed in my key again, and it is installing now.

At first sight it looks like there are 2 problems here... One is a compatability problem and the other appears to be the fact that it looks like it's trying to install the 1.03 patch and then - for those of us that have the patch already installed - falling over because it's already there.

You're failing on the de-archiving process the first time

In Win 2k mode, its not having that issue. Do you have an archiving software installed that have overwritten or taken control of your default compression tools? Perhaps the forced-emulation mode doesn't have access to the tools that have been added for archiving in XP, Vista, and 7... and is using a version that comes on the game disk?


Alternately, if could be a User Account Control issue... that when in regular mode it isn't doing the unarchiving itself but the setup program isn't passing admin privileges to the rar program, so its failing. Try temporarily turning off User Account Control and running it.

Problem is, i don't have 1.03 patch installed.

The installation fails right after i see the DOS pop up trying to install the patch... then it fails.

I don't have my original DA:Origins disk to try and do a fresh install. (working in a foreign city)

The problem looks to be the patch.

I'll download it and see if that makes a difference.

I am having the same problem, as soon as the DOS window opens the intallation ends with the message Dragon Age Origins Awakening has failed to install. No why, where, how, or what, Not even an error code.

I ran setup.exe in XP compatability mode (I am running a Vista 32 bit OS) and the install works.

FYI: Anyone who didn't already have patch 1.03 installed, the setup.exe appears to install it right before it fails, even though it's the "last" message you see, I believe it to be a red herring.

I would focus on that "unextracting" issue. I know I had the free version of WinRAR installed (over 30 days ago so it had the "hey you should buy WinRAR" message popping up). I tried uninstalling WinRAR, and then later reinstalled it, but it appears that it's using the unrar.dll file

Hopefully someone who knows something about unrar.dll can comment.

Here was the error in the install log:

It's like unrar.dll is a "standard" for unpacking rar files. Now why does it find RARProcessFileW in "Windows 2000 mode" but not in "Windows XP mode" (of Vista as some other people have)
