Open up Word

Paste the following into word

"E:\\data\\DAO_UpdateAddinsXml.exe" /addins="BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings\\addins.xml" /manifest="I:\\Games\\Dragon Age\\addins\\dao_prc_ep_1\\manifest.xml"

Now, change this accordingly to your own drives.

E=My DVD drive, Put whatever your DVD drive is.

I:\\Games = my location for Dragon age, insert your own path to it

With the modifications, copy this text. Open up CMD, right click in it, press paste, enter if need be. The Addon installer will run succesfully. With any luck you can now boot up Dragon Age and select Awakening!

PS. This board tend to double the number of "\\". If you see two \\ in a row instead of one, simply make sure it's only one, as folder paths should be.

I'm experiencing the same issue guys. My problem is that after selecting compatibility mode (either XP or Win2000) although the installation starts, it fails at about 50%. I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1. Any suggestions????

I tried changing the compatability to every one available but the only option that worked was to unintall DAO and re-install it with no modes or patches and then install Awakening. I am running on Windows 7 x64. I believe that this will be the only option for most people running Win 7 x64 or Vista x64.

I will try to add a couple of the modes after I play through once but not until I finish one play through for fear that adding a mode will kill it.

Otherwise good luck all.

I had the same problem and the compatibility mode thing fixed it. Just to make sure everyone who tried that and is still getting problems is switching modes correctly, here's the exact description of what I did to get it to work, no installing the disc on your hard drive or anything required:

Pop the disc in, cancel the auto-run thing if it pops up. Go to My Computer, right click your disc drive, click "Explore". You should see a directory structure of everything on the disc. There's a file named "autorun" in there. Right click it, go to properties. You should now be looking at "autorun Properties" it has a tab named compatibility, click it, then check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" then select "Windows 2000". Hit OK, then double-click autorun to run it. If everything worked okay, it should install.

Props to the people that figured it out by switching the CM...but we shouldn't have to be doing this in the first place. But again, thanks for posting and helping everyone.

Can anyone that has bought the retail version flip it over on the back and look if there are disclaimers stating that this game can only be installed by selecting Windows 2000 in compatibility mode =/

...I'll take my ban and quietly fade into the woodwork

I did exactly that Capt Monkey and it still doesn't fails. I've also tried to install the patch from bioware's website but it still fails regardless of the compatibility mode. I've also ran it as administrator and it won't work.

I am running on Windows 7 x64

I've tried re-installing, but the install still fails when it's extracting the files for the actual campaign, which is when it's been crashing this whole time. I think one of the .rars must be corrupted or something.

Seriously, I'm really disappointed that something ridiculous like this is going on. First it was the DLC, now it's this. Have we not heard of quality check? >:[

Curious. I know that my method solves it for those of us who's Awakening seems to install correctly but isn't assessable, but have any of you whom have the install issue tried my method with or without success?

I just completely uninstalled Origins and reinstalled it then I installed Awakening successfully. So what Pantherkat said worked for me. So I'd have to agree that this is the solution for windows 7 users.

Remember to keep your saves!

Unfortunately it didn't work for me, but my issue appears to be broken files in my rar. I wonder if it's the EA Store or just my download.

What's odd is I had the problems with WinXP SP3 running only the respec mod (fixed w/win2k compatility mode).

My Win7 x64 worked just fine, even with respec mod and winterforge mod, even the winterforge modded clothes were in the game

Now this is interesting. Tried the XP/win 200 compatibility mode. No luck. Didn't have the 1.03 patch. Went to patch it. And got this error: "An error occured applying the 1.03 to your version of Dragon Age: Origins[36]" What is error 36 referencing? Help Bioware.

Oddly enough, I tried what you guys had said in a different way. I've got Windows XP, and had the same error. I ran setup.exe with Windows 98 compatibility, and it worked :D.

The error I get is a little different than the one's I have seen posted. That directory doesn't even exist on my drive. Isn't spiritform new? I don't get it. I tried the patch from the website too, and it won't work either.

ENTRY: packages\\core\\data\\abilities\\spiritform.rim

error ept0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was

found. No update done since file contents do not match.

Not sure but perhaps that means you should uninstall / reinstall?
(Backup your saves first would be a good idea)

ok ive gotten a little further now, I uninstalled deleted all my saves and that (backed up ofc) then did a fresh install, then i installed 1.02 which finished fine and then i installed awakening, now it did fail shortly after the line with movies/mother recieves news... but the patch worked so now everytime i try a reinstall it bypasses the patching altogether but now im in pretty much the same position as b4, but gonna try some of the help offered earlier since i couldnt try it b4 the patch flopped, so hopefully i get it going (yn)

What worked for me was setting the security permissions on the Dragon Age folder (Vista 64). Try navigating to "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age" or wherever you installed it, right-clicking, and selecting properties.

Select the security tab at the top.

Select edit.

Click users.

Finally, check the box next to "full control".

@Hirdas Put Awakenings DVD in the drive
Start > My Computer
Right click the DVD ROM drive (that's named "DragonAge") and click open.
Right click "Setup.exe" and click "Properties"

Then click on the tab "Compatibility"

Then check "Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for" and select "Windows 2000"

Then click OK.

Then doubleclick Setup.exe, clicked all the next's and typed in my key again.

If that doesn't work, try going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

and copy and paste in the command found on this webpage:

http://tinyempire.co...ingscommand.htm

If your DVD drive is "D" and if you installed Dragon Age to the "typical" location of "C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age" it should work fine, otherwise you'll have to edit it some (tip: just try it once first if you don't know what any of that means"
