In my case (digital download) the file "ep1_campaign.rar" is corrupted and 2 files can´t be extracted. So installer fail and can´t do nothing (even repair file won´t work)

Good for bioware. ¬¬

I had the same problem myself, though I just figured out how to fix it for me, hopefully it fixes it for some of you as well! Here is how I fixed it.

Go to (C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship) and open daupdater.exe.
Click the Log tab and check the Dragon Age Version check number.
For me, it was 1.1.
Download the latest patch prior to Awakening, which was 1.2.
Install the patch for 1.2.
Rerun installation for Awakening (including patch 1.3).
Installed properly this time, no Failure.

Hope this helps! :wizard:

I solve the problem by changing the setup.exe on the DVD for compatibility windows XP service pack 3.  I have Windows 7 premium 64 bits.

The Awakening includes Patch 1.3 (which, in my case, was causing the installation to fail). I updated to 1.2 before installation.

FYI, if you've installed a replacement daorigins.exe file in order to play without having the cd in the tray, that will cause the Awakening install to fail in the manner that many have reported.

So basically, people using no-disc cracks complaining that their game isn't working again?

Always priceless.

I have had the same issues, just bought the game yesterday. I tried the compatibility with every choice with no luck. I have made no modifications to the game and use the disk version.

With so many people having the same issues where is a bioware response?

for those getting error 36 try here   social.bioware.com/forum/Dragon-Age-Origins/Dragon-Age-Origins-PC-Technical-Support/102a-error-36-on-Windows-XP-fix-532591-1.html

link for designersripts     www.gigasize.com/get.php

Also for a universal extractor i use Zip Genious in the three years i`ve been using it i think i had 2 files it wouldn`t extract and its 100% free and no adware or spyware

Wow. Just wow. Thanks for posting this, changing compatibility mode of Setup.exe to Win2K unblocked my install (I'm running on Vista SP2). I downloaded the game from Impulse... their install script wipes the install folder on completion of the Bioware installer, so I actually had to download the 2.17 GB package a couple of times before I got wise and archived it.

Hugely frustrating bug, and after spending almost 2 hours trying to find some "rogue" copy of unrar.dll on my system, I finally found this post. Kudos to you, tech support should give you some kind of freebie reward! I was about 24 hrs from doing a chargeback on the cc.

I tried a clean install no dlcs or anything, update then install awakening, compatibility for every os and the command lines, uninstalling/updating winrar, still getting install failed.

Any suggestions? (besides more waiting)

edit: win xp btw

Oddly enough, I tried what you guys had said in a different way. I've got Windows XP, and had the same error. I ran setup.exe with Windows 98 compatibility, and it worked :D.

I've got XP too, had the same problem, and I just did what he said... now it's installed :D

I helped my m8 get his working, we had to patch to 1.02 (remember to right click>properties>unblock it first) then we had to run the dvd in compatibility mode to patch to 1.03 where it would finish the patch but the full game install would fail, since any retry of install would skip patching we had to remove all compatibility from the setup to get it to finisht he install, weird but there you go.

Done on windows home premium 32x

At first sight it looks like there are 2 problems here... One is a compatability problem and the other appears to be the fact that it looks like it's trying to install the 1.03 patch and then - for those of us that have the patch already installed - falling over because it's already there.
Fair assumption...?

There must be some errors. as i installed it many times in different ways. i tried on 1.02a but failed. then tried to install after patch 1.3 still failed. even i tried it on fresh copy but still give same ep core 1 error. no matter what you do it ends up with installation failed. and yes i tried no dvd fix too but fail fail fail.

Had the failure issue. Copied the disk to a folder and changed the compatability of the startup.exe to win2000 and it worked.

I love DAO but WTF i cant play the sequel, i demand a refund or a copy that actually works :@

Another post to add to the list...

I've downloaded the Digital Download version. It seems to install fine (went past the patch 1.03 bit) but at the end of the process it states that the Installation has failed. Also running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Doubly disappointed because the new DLC for Mass Effect 2 didn't install today either.... Guess Bioware haven't gotten to grips with Windows 7 yet.
