Not "just" the writer...he is the LEAD writer!  (HE is Morrigan.  LOL!)

Well there's a disturbing mental picture.

Except whe you get more than one reviewer having the SAME criticisms - bad ending, rushed, no continuity, limited dialogue, character story is over in this expansion - that is would be a concern as obviously most people playing the game are seeing the same things

and also, that it isn't something unexpected. it fits perfectly the direction things were going.... sadly.
i won't know till the weekend earliest, but i'm not exactly in high spirits:unsure:

I'm sorry...I've read both reviews that are up and for someone like me, it sounds like less than 10 hours total gameplay.

A lot of you keep saying 'Well that's ok for an expansion" $60 for full game, $50 for expansion. Money is all that matters and we obviously aren't getting 5/6ths of the original game here.

Would you guys pay $25 for a 1 hour dlc? What about $30? Would -that- be ok because it's DLC and not an expansion?

Dragon Age is a test to move single player games to pay to play, it's a marketing experiment and nothing more in my eyes. A test to determine how much they can make for adding so little.  They made BG1, BG2, and ToB, so I can't blame them for trying to make as much money as possible, but DA:O is not BG2 quality and that's where the root of the problem is.

Steady stream of lack luster DLC at $5 a pop, throw in some 'expansions' at $50 and now what they used to charge  an even $50 for, they can get close to 200.

Or you can just play the original game and not even worry about the DLC and expansions and pretend it's 15 year ago, living in peaceful, ignorant bliss??  Image IPB

Anyway, lack luster is surely a subjective opinion...as is the worth of DLC.  It's damned if you do, damned if you don't for them.  If they don't release DLC or expansions, people will complain as there were expansions for previous games from them.  If they DO create extra stuff...they have to pay writers, programmers, artists, designers to actually work on it.  Why should they give it away for free?  When it is totally optional and doesn't take anything away from the original game?

Worth of DLC is subjective.  Is $5 worth your 30 minutes of time?  For me it is if you strictly equate time=money.  Considering I would pay $5 for a beer at a bar, I would trade that single beer for 30 minutes of DAO dlc.

He probably dated a girl like her in college....I know I did.  Morrigan's attitude was junior year of college "deja vu" for me.

Hey, I'm not one to judge - I'm a pretty open-minded guy. But if he comes back and says "'Tis cold in this thread...", I'll probably freak out a little.

Really appreciate the time you put into the review.

Just one question, and I apologize if this has been answered before: are the new skills and spells unlocked for the original game if you buy the expansion? For example, can you play as the other specializations in the vanilla game if you bought the expansion?

man I if I'm going to spend 38 to 40 dollars for this, the gameplay better last me a long time, there are other games out there that have long gameplay with quailty, and they're cheaper, but at the same time I want to play this expansion, since I'm a fan of DAO. The fact that its shorts, worries me, and makes me think twice about getting it, if its shorter then 10 hours, or no more then than that. I might as well save the rest of the money to get ME 2

Dragon Age Origins was one of the best RPG's i've played, I truly loved it.

I kept telling my friends that the game is really a Movie, and that the movie unfolds differently depending on what choices i make along the way but in the end culminates into a ferocious battle with the Archdemon. I have played the game through multiple times with different classes and made different choices with each character. Definite replayabilty for me.

With Awakening to be released today 3 - 16 - 10 ( supposedly ), as an expansion to the original story then I expect it will be a good addition.

While DOA was roughly 20 - 30 hours of main story .. The side quests gave me additional play time so I guess roughly 60 hours of game play is about 1 dollar per hour since I paid about 60 dollars for the game.

Lets not forget that the Toolset is available for people that want to Mod their games or offer DLC for others to play through and if your so inclined to use the toolset then you could add much more to the main story then originally released ( if thats your sort of thing ).

I speak from experience when I say that making a game of any magnitude is a huge effort for any size team so don't take the Toolset lightly if you plan to go that route to add content to your game.

A review of any product is just a general opinion by one person and in some cases a group of people that are all biased by expectations and thus form an opinion to share, I prefer to experience a product for myself and obtain an original thought about the item because mileage varies based on many factors of operation or play style or even hype over a product.

I just dont see where this is coming from.
The only reason i today would play this over the older RPG's is that graphics.
As far as story, quests NPC's and pretty much everything else, it doesnt even compare to the older games.
Here i'm talking about games like Baldurs gate, where you had a lot more complicated gameplay, like what spells to use in what situation aswell as a lot of background info on different DnD creatures would help immensly/how the hell can you kill a demi lich?) and so on. This seems more like Diablo to me. Hack and slash your way through most things.
If there is one thing i like about this compared to baldurs gate its the fact that healers are now very usable, if not needed for any group wishing to complete the game. The baldurs gate series where when you got cure minor wounds it was allready to week and the casting time to long(plus the range being **** :P)
Tbh i've been waiting since the release of ToB for a new Baldurs gate, hoping this would be it.
I just dont understand how you can  make a game called dragon age with less spells/char developement then in BG 1. It saddens me.
I want to actually need to think about where to place my "talents" and atrributes when i level up. Not just put it all in strenght and whack a mole.
I want real saving throws back.
Death spells!
Massive aoe killing death spells!
And most of all i want the robe of vecna and improved alacracy(or w/e).
This was a nice standard game though. I would put in next to nwn(a bit more in enjoyability, a lot less in char developement/the true face of rpg) and a bit less  in how long it lasts)

Edit:
I must say one of the most depressing things about this game is the even worse customer support then wow gives, just amazes me that even exists.

I've just finished this expansion a few minutes ago and I have to agree with the OP. This game is basically do all the side quest and hoppa! done with the game, really a big disappointment. Playing dragon age origins was like watching a movie, incl. all DLC's, it took me 40 hours:) But this expansion.... I've finished this game in 9-10 hours with an empty satisfaction feeling. I'd strongly advise bioware to think harder about the plot n story. The ending was just lame, plotwise. I'd say max a 6 for this game imo.

edit* this is a rushed version of my review.

CBA to spoil the game. and spending time @ this disappointing game.
