They eventually tried using rifles...that is why they ultimately lost the rebellion.  In desperation they abandoned an art form honed through the generations by their ancestors in favor of the crude gun powder weapontry they had no experience with.

That is why today the Samurai are no more.  I for one though believe that legends never truly die and that the spirit of the samurai still lives on in those who are worthy.

You're assuming someone with a gun is going to walk right up to you, make a threat, and then draw. If you angered them earlier, they're going to wait for an opportune time to shoot from a distance. That's why they use guns. To attack from range.

I've trained myself to be aware of my surroundings and I focus on speed too.  Hell, I can run 4 miles in just under 29 minutes.
I got first place in the 25-29 age division for the Run For the Sun skin cancer awareness race in 09.

If anyone tried to pull a gun on me I would notice and it would be the last thing they ever regretted.

Again, you expect them to do it in front of you? Have you ever heard of how gang fights usually go down? One side gets the jump on the other, the other side dies. It isn't some epic battle.

Once I master my own body and the art of sword fighting it will be the gangs who fear me.  Hell, the most skilled swordsman can even deflect bullets with their own sword.

No way would I let any of my enemies sneak up on me.  How would I know?  Well I'm suspicious of everybody.  I've trained myself to be extremely focused on my surroundings.  Every nook and crevice I see as I walk by I look extra carefully to make sure that I am not walking into an ambush.

If I were to be so clumsy as to wind up in the same position as that fictional portrayal you posted then I would dishonor myself and deserve what was coming to me.

I work hard to make sure that doesn't happen.
