I feel It's 10 dollers higher for an expansion then it should be.

This really is it for me. I think it looks good, but $30 is the price point for Expansions and it has been for a long time. When it comes down to it I'm going to have to vote with my wallet against the price increase in Expansions. I'll pick it up when it hits $30.

It's a crying shame too, I do want the game, but I can't support the price increase for expansions it represents.

I don't get where people are seeing DA:A being offered for $49.99.

worksa8 wrote...

They say it has more content then most full retail games, but that was either a lie, or they were comparing it to like shooters and everything.

Nowadays, most full games last less than ten hours.

i call bull. comparing most games to cod or other shooters that rely on online multiplayer isnt a fair comparison at all. rpg games like fallout for one and even some shooters like bioshock are well over 20 hours long.

It does not matter if the game has multiplayer or not. Most games nowadays are less than ten hours. It is literally stupid to say that multiplayer is the same as the base gameplay length.

Heh, I payed 70$ for the collectors.

Value is subjective so this topic is pointless.

I bought the collectors edition as well, and I still don't regret it really...
But Awakening....ehhh....At least I know what I'm in for now.

I really would love to know what on earth drove the price up in the US. I've paid £15 for mine with free shipping. About what I'd expect for an expansion.

50 - 60 $ is the normal price for a game with the US

Lasts longer than 3 bottles of quality spirit, so its worth it.

Or maybe I shouldn't compare the prices of my two main free time activities.

And we're already seeing that change in this new age of peripherals being required to play games.

I think $10 cheaper would probably be more "appropriate," but to be honest, I don't care at all and I'm looking forward to playing it on Tuesday so much that tonight and tomorrow seems naught but darkness. FWIW, Mr. Gaider has actually commented that a) he felt Origins was actually too long, or could have been shorter; B) he likes many aspects of Awakening's tighter dialogue. As an RPG experience I'm expecting something a little more outright refined than Origins was. I'll definitely take the trade off of less overall content for more polished content.

I'm definitely not one to always blindly give Bioware a break about their content/pricing, either. I think Return to Ostagar was definitely too little content for the price, and will be wary of future DLCs. But all of the crying over the expansion itself seems... odd. Bioware roped you into caring for Origins this much in the first place, are you already so jaded as to think you can never be as engaged in a product again mere months later?

yes but 40 bucks worth of alcohol consumed by yourself in one sitting leads to very interesting stories.

Whats the point of even making a new character in this 'expansion' if you only have 8 hours of content to play through?

Thats not really the point though this whole situation seems to just have the sims written all over it. Build up hype for a great game, one that people love, and then dump useless expansions that add very little content and strip key features from the core game on top of it to maximize profit. It's Bioware's game, but it's EA's marketing.

At what point do you say ENOUGH?! $5 DLC? $10 DLC? $15 DLC? $40 DLC named an 'expansion'? Whats next? Our own community makes better mods than what RTO was yet we paid Bioware $5? Yeah so what it's $5 but still..

Bioshock 20-25 hours for 1, 16-18 hours for 2

Assassin's Creed 12-15 hours for number 1, 20-25 for number 2

These are both games I liked, all of them were based on personal playtimes for each game, all of them were full games that I paid 60 dollars to get. Therefore, with Awakening being 15-20 hours on your initial playthrough, in my mind 40 dollars is fine. I may be a little pricey but I'm definitely going to support Bioware.

There are good community modules? Sounds fun, got any examples? I haven't heard of anything being advertised like the better NWN player-mades were.

i suggest you play bioware's other expansion's (BG2, NWN,)
they are huge and pretty much retail games in the selfs.

DLC is really nothing more then a few side mission around a single plot.
where a full expansion adds hours and hours of new quests items levels classes and expands the core plot.

http://www.dragonagenexus.com

The community itself has put out alot of stuff including really nice armor, weapons, 'realistic' body mods, and a few nice locations/story mods. Yes, it would take some nice voice acting and a small group to create something like RTO, but its very possible with the toolset. I think I seen someone working on a return to highever mod, though Im assuming thats still a far ways out. The template is up on that site though.

Why is that stupid? If we're talking about the number of hours of entertainment you're getting, why shouldn't multiplayer count?

The expansion costs about 80% of what the original game did. Personally, I think DA:O was a great value considering the length and quality. But if the expansion is only 20% as long as the original, the 80% cost seems a bit high. I'm definitely waiting for the reviews to come out en masse on this one.
