so I vaguely know about making a new character, and overriding the appearance of a toon with the one I just made, with the help of the toolset. Is it possible to open up the appearance of a toon and modify it directly? thanks in advance.

As far as we can tell, no. It needs to be an .mrh file to open. And as far as I know, a saved game made with the default toolset does not have a file that relates to the morph, or at least one that is identifiable. Even a .mop or .mor cannot be opened with the toolset.

Yeah I'm having that problem, my character is overwritten with a morph but I want it to be more than just a mask, that way it won't cause any more problems like it did in the fade.

Ok, I've found a roundabout way to do this. You make a morph, add it as a preset, make a character with that face and use the new save game to copy and paste the face morph binary data into the save game you want to affect. Hardly simple, but it's a sure-fire way of editing a characters face at a base level after fine-tuning it in the editor.
