No exscuses, poorly balanced game. In the worst possible way. IE the game is not fun when played properly with mixed party,

I played with a rogue... I played with a 2h warrior..and, by FAR, Im having a much easier time with a mage playing through then the other two classes.. maybe the specializations will balance it out but I did not play rogue/warrior out that far.. maybe I will go back to them after I beat the game with my Mage

It's a party game why does it matter who is better?
Well it matters because there's no reason to have a balanced versatile party in the game.
I understand it's possible to complete the game with a balanced party. very possiible. But that doesn't discredit the fact that there is a class in the game which is completely self dependant and does not needd any of the other classes.

So wait. You're saying a balanced party> a party of mages?

I think that playing as a rogue will add to the difficulty level, and playing as a mage will lower it - you get to choose, so if you think 2x+ mages make life too easy, then try playing on hard without them for the challenge that'd bring.
It is a fantastic game. BioWare has done it again.

Mage class is super ez in this game, makes combat too ez... I CANT imagine playing another class, specially after that part in the tower where you fight like 20 dudes. AOE = too important to not have.
Edit: Once I finish the game I will try it in nightmare with Mage again to see how hard it gets

AOE is a life saver. I've got to try and cut it down to one mage next time.
Also; The Pause and Play gameplay is great. I often stop and just watch a freezed combat situation from multiple angles.

Also, some of the more powerful spells costs 60-70 mana. You can only cast 4-5 of those until you run out.
You can always spam potions, but they aren't THAT cheap. Enough for boss fights, but the cost starts to add up if you want your mages kill everything.
Also, while they might have heals, they can still be killed easily. A warrior will survive being knocked down 3 times in a row. A mage won't, because it relies on heals(an active ability) instead of heavy armor (passive).
Sure, you can use Arcane Warrior and Heavy Armor, but then you can barely cast spells with that high fatigue.

Depends. I just encountered a dragon for the first time (hard mode) and a party full of mages would probably have just been splattered. It resists stuff like horror so you have a really hard time to disable it (while it has a very easy time disabling you) and it dishes out some crazy damage so those flimsy spellcasters would die very soon. I really needed my main char (darf warrior) and Sten to tank so Morrigan and Leliana could slowly whittle away at it until it was wounded enough for Morrigan to kill with spells (because if I fired my spells immediately the thing would just go after her and kill her because she'd be the biggest threat, leaving me with a dragon with 2/3rds health and no mage).

And mages in Baldur's Gate 2 were....?
In D&D on the computer (BG etc). They were late bloomers. And were not that great for the first half of the game. You definitely didn't want a party of mages from the start unless you knew what you were doing and knew what every spell did etc. In other games, well mages have been good at damage. but I think this is the first time I've seen a mage class with dps and healing. And also massive amount of CC. Compared to the remaining two classes it's just sad to be honest. You can't help but feel sorry for them because they are utter crap in comparison. That imo is a problem. it's just terrible class balance. And is not in the spirit of BG. Because in BG you definitely needed a tank and a cleric, and most of the other classes definitely felt viable in comparison to the mage. Paladin had good class specific items (holy avenger exp). And there were other classes that did a ton of dps such as the kensai.

TBH I just bought the game off steam and after reading about everyone saying that "ZOMG THE GAME IS TOO HARD" I was kinda scared.. So I rolled a Mage (my favorite class in any rpg/game) and started playing... I decided to be an "electrical" mage first, since hell, who doesn't loves lightning effects? So after getting the PBAE lightning spell + Mind Blast (aoe stun) I seriously had no trouble at all killing... Then I got Morrigan and her sick DD spells and it's just a breeze.

Anyone saying that you don't need a tank or that mages can do everything is obviously playing on easy difficulty. I'm playing on hard, and if I didn't have a tank, my mage would be splattered on the wall constantly.
This game is really not that difficult to figure out. Imagine four mages each one with that one talent point in heal. there would be no reason for a tank. Maybe just on bosses to hold agro. Everywhere else no reason. And I haven't touched easy mode. I started on hard mode.
