When Alistair makes himself king....

I do not recall ever having much trouble with Loghain with warrior, rogue or mage. My mages have the least difficulty (he doesn't seem to have much magical resistance), rogues more so and warriors most of all. But none of the fights take particularly long.
As for Anora under house arrest I 've imagined that my city elf would ask that Anora be lodged in a palace appropriate to her rank and station, that of the former Arl of Denerim. It's vacant and my city elf former bride knows that house intimately...

I rarely let Alistair fight the duel because either I've set it up so that Alistair and Anora marry or I don't want the king being his own executioner.

Too hard to defend, unless they put her in the dungeon, and that wouldn't be appropriate. Too accessible, as well. They need somewhere safer and more remote. Hmmm.... Warden's Keep isn't in use, an the wardens don't need it now that they have Amaranthine.

To quote Microsoft, that's not a bug, that's a feature.
Addendum: Of course Soldier's Peak does have a lot of really high places. Someone would have to keep a close watch on Anora to make sure she doesn't jump from one of them in despair and grief. Pity Ferelden is so short of manpower after the Blight...

Defend from potential rescuers, I should say.
Heh, Soldier's Peak is looking better and better....

LOL Did you get your question answered? I recall one other instance where Ali pulled a surprise throne-seizure on my HNF and I had to reload so she could get her princess-consort gig. I was playing around with trying to spare Loghain. Not a good idea with a hardened Alistair. Or any Alistair, really.errant_knight wrote...

I believe he offers to take the final blow, because he is the future king, but he won't prevent you from doing it if you insist. He only does that if he's in love with you.

Alistair won't make himself king because he's generally not hardened (unless you try REALLY hard to make this happen, and it's not easy and requires many gifts). But yes, he offers even at -100 hostile. He wants to take the final blow.

Well, I think I did.... Basically. It's not that Alistair says anything dofferent when he does that--a wee disappointment since I was hoping he'd say something pithy-- but because it doesn't go to the decision process, which has that one unhardened Alistair line, it has a different, more forceful tone.
And now I know that Alistair can pull a ninja throne-seizure, well, I'll have to try and make that happen. I guess I'll have to try a male character soon.

Alistair will always offer to do the final blow, even if your character is male. It has nothing to do with affection and everything to do with his beliefs about duty. He won't insist if you aren't a female whom he loves, though. Then he gives you no choice.

I know this. I was answering the question that was asked, though. But a non-hardened Alistair REALLY wants to take that blow. He does not want to be king, says he'll be a ******-poor king as a matter of fact, and practically begs to allow you to let him take it. But he will let you take it as well.
Edit: At least I thought I was answering the question. I tend to forget that Alistair insisting on taking that blow if "in love" or "still in love" may not be common knowledge to EVERYONE. I just go under the assumption that it's known!

I've only had Alistair get himself killed when he was at 100% friendly and so the tone of the conversation was more 'hey, you keep saving me now it's my turn' and he only brought up how no one could think dying to save them was being a crappy king when that was the argument I used to try and talk him out of it.

At -100 hostile he really wants to. He hates the warden, but hates the prospect of being king even more.

Thank God we have the option of getting him to look at it all differently! Tha't's just sad. Hmmm.... I suppose a warden he hates wouldn't bother, though....
It's not that. You never get the chance to do his personal quest. There's only one way I can think of to do it, and it would take a LOT of gifts and hassle.

Alistair duels Loghain- You skip right to Alistair executing Loghain, no Riordan sequence at all. Then move to the scene where the PC is asked to decide who'll rule and she can declare herself queen.
I just did this for the first time where Alistair does the duel n to me at the end it just seemed rushed when he executed Loghain. I guess I was looking for more as far as Alistair making any comments, not the "Forget Maric, this is for Duncan" n then whack, bye bye Loghain. It would of been nice if he'd of included Cailan in that comment. If he's come to terms with being King then he should of come to terms of Cailan being his brother.

In his pep speech to the troops he talks about avenging his brother King Cailan. That line was much more moving after RtO.Thor Rand Al wrote...

I don't think he has any issues about that. He clearly regrets Cailan's death and the treachery that caused it (RtO), but Duncan and the warden's are his primary focus at that moment. Taking the throne is about Cailan and Maric, but executing Loghain is about Duncan and the wardens--essentially Alistair's adopted family. Alistair wants Loghain to know that.
