Hi guys, I've searched this board but couldn't find an answer to this question. Hopefully, I'm the only one who has experienced this problem: My male human noble decided after some deliberation ('what would Arl Howe do?') to have Alistair put Loghain to the sword (he took the initiative after having dueled him, but I saw my guy nod eagerly) , after which I decided to take one for the team and marry Anora myself. She confirmed this during the Landsmeet, but when I arrive at Redcliff, there is no sign of her and Alistair has apparently pulled a coup (he didn't seem the type, but than again: Howe was also a trusted friend of the family). Everyone considers him to be the king and he gives the speech before the assault on Denerim. Does this mean that my game is fatally glitched? I intend to use this char for Awakening and possibly DA2 and I'm sure he'd rather not live in a world where Alistair is sitting on the throne. Should I reload a pre-Landsmeet save or will the game correct itself at the ending? Cheers.

If Alistar duels and kills Loghain, he becomes King. There's not escaping that.

Thanks for the reply. Obviously, I can't kill Loghain myself if I want to marry Anora, so would this work out if I send one of my other peons to do the deed?

If you chose the "Anora will be Queen, and I'll rule beside her" option at the Landsmeet and she confirmed it, Anora is Queen and you'll be her Prince-Consort. On the 360, Alistair will act as though he's king after the Landsmeet through the final battle, even when he's not. This is a known bug and does not affect the epilogue slides. On the PC, you can download dialogue patches to fix this, but, alas, they're not available on the 360.

The only time hardened Alistair will assume the throne without the PC Warden's intervention is when the PC Warden is not a human noble and Alistair kills Loghain (to my knowledge). So if you didn't have Alistair give a speech at the Landsmeet telling the troops to get ready, he's not King.

Hope that helps.

It's things like this that make me wish Orgins would run on my PC, alas I am stuck with Xbox.

Thanks Freckless. So there is no point to reloading and having someone else kill Loghain? Truth to be told by the way, I actually prefer Loghain over Alistair. It's unfortunate that his actions cannot be excused. Treason? Slavery? Attempted murder? I'll have to go with the wisecracking puppy-boy again. Than again, if he calls my male character 'my love' one more time, I just might leave him behind in the deep roads anyway. ;)
