Sorry if this has been brought before. I searched the whole forum and couldn't find any mention to this "trick".

First things first. Just like the name implies, the Charge Fast Draw can only be performed by the Vanguard and as far as I know it only works on the PC version.

Second, this is a situational technique. While it isn't particularly hard to perform it has very limited uses. This technique won't give you a big advantage like the Claymore trick.

And last but not least, this technique will only appeal to a very particular niche of hardcore players, the ones who enjoy making performance and time attack runs/vids WITHOUT PAUSING.

Charge Fast Draw

A charge consists of three phases: the "build up" when Shephard lowers his weapon, the charge per se and the impact, when Shephard will raises his weapon. Weapon switch consists of two phases: holster and draw. This technique allows you to "bypass" the holster animation and fast draw a weapon while performing a charge.

Basically all you gotta do is charge and buffer the weapon switch before the impact. The holster phase will happen during the charge (i.e. it will be bypassed) and you will draw your weapon immediately after the impact allowing you to draw your weapon AND shoot during the time dilation. As I said before, this will only appeal for the hardcore as you will be getting only a few frames of advantage.

There is a little detail though (the reason why it only works on the PC version). The fast draw only works IF you switch your weapon with the mouse wheel. It will definitely NOT work using the quick switch. I didn't experiment enough with the pause as I abhor it, but I don't see it working (unless you are lightning fast) as the pause won't stop the charge.

Also it allows you to "skip" some weapons during the switch. For example: If you wheel UP with the pistol equipped it will change to the machine gun and from there it will change to the shotgun. By using this technique you might be able to change from the pistol directly to the shotgun. I still don't understand how this works though. Just wheeling twice up during the charge won't work. It happened a couple of times but I can't pull it consistently yet. Perhaps it has something to do with the distance? I need to run more tests.

Here is a simple demonstration vid:
Compare the first part (when I used "last weapon") against the second (mouse wheel). You can clearly see that during the first part Shephed will hoster then draw while in the second part he will immediately draw the shotgun after the impact.

For some pratical applications you can check:  and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgRldSWMCRA where I used this technique at several points.

I agree, after you get some upgrades, you will rarely have to use anything besides the shotgun.

Until you get those upgrades or for the few areas where you have to use another weapon like the pistol, this will speed things up a bit.

Do you know that time, when you have to change your weapon to anything besides the shotgun and you really want to charge, right now, and you can't wait for the reload anymation? You might just let it go, or you might charge and change to shotgun afterwards loosing a VERY SMALL time advantage. With this you don't have to worry about that anymore. No matter what weapon you have equipped, you will be able to charge and unload a shotgun blast like if you have the shotgun equipped in the first place.

I think this open new opportunities and allow the Vanguard to swiftly change from medium range mode (pistol/machinegun) to short range (shotgun).

This won't be so useful if you use Scimitar or the Eviscerator as you can just shot/charge/shot but I think it works nice with the Claymore.

It works well with heavy weapons too. You can pull the grenade launcher/missile launcher, shot once to soften (and stun) a small group and immediately charge and unload the shotgun without giving 'em time to recover.

Still this is very situational but nevertheless a nice addition to the Vanguard repertoire.

OMG I'm so giving my vanguard a sniper rifle now.

It'll be like, "why on earth are you using a Mantis?"

"Heard of the dude that quickscopes at point blank range? Yeah, that's me."

I actually often switch to shotgun and charge while he is pulling out the gun. Not as fast as this but you save some frames on the draw animation. I will see if i can get this to work though (360 version),

What on earth is this "Claymore Trick" people keep mentioning? I've never seen an explanation.

Hold down the fire button
weapon fires
keep holding the fire button
weapon starts to reload
when you hear the CLICK during the reload animation
hit the melee button
the melee animation will cut off the reload animation and you will fire

The key is to never let go of the fire button and hit the melee button when you hear the click.

Here's a video.

I've been using this, and it's a lot of fun.

Trying to play a little off, and usually charging with shuriken SMG (button mashing for full auto).

I tried playing like this some time ago, but found that there were times when I really want that shotgun.

Fast draw fits in brilliantly.
