just to give some of you who haven't gotten the game yet an overview of what i did like and what not that much - i like that kind of +/- review to build my own opinion, so i hope you too - of course this my own opinion and yours might differ

first of all the value questions that is often asked - it is worth 50 bucks (or how much you are paying) - i needed around 33h to finish - but i really spent a lot of time looking at things or creating runes and being to dum to solve riddles... if you play fast and don't waste too much time with the sidequests, youre gonna be through in less then 10 hours i guess (but who would want that). just for comparsion - my first playtrhough in dragon age with the same attitude was 90 hours, the second one was 30 hours...

pro's:
great character's - you might still miss one or two from origins, but the new ones are really fun...

great banter between character's - much better then in origins - mostly because the characters are even more over the edge (oghren for example - you will play through it at least twice just to see the different combinations...

enemies use more abilities during fights

you'll find plenty of items

some of the locations are really great - better then origins

there are some very interesting boss fights that are a bit more creative then in origins

there are some riddles to solve (but not enough)

some decisions have a direct influence (if you help party a, you won't get quests from party B)

new dialogue system (you click on objects or locations to start dialogues) - i enjoyed it, since it makes more sence then the clicking storm in the party camp and dialogues are always centered around a topic

some of the new skills are really hot and other classer are now more even to mages in terms of babooom

rune-crafting - thats really fun, lots of interesting runes...problem is just that it takes quite some time to get to the top runes and you might loose interest because you will be close to the game end then

cons:

not a lot of recerences to origin...there are a few, the beginning is nice, but besides your origin or decisions do not really matter (at least from what i saw)

the riddle's dont result in extraordinary rewards

some of the sidequests are extremely short or even meaningless - sometimes there is a huge build up for a quest and you thin WOA thats gonna be something but then the main part or end of the quest is extremely fast and unspactacular

some things you have to decide also build up as if the game would really change that but it doesnt really matter what you choose...some decisions that seem to be important have no real influence to the game while playing and are rather lore (can't say more without spoiling) - that was rather a bit disappointing... but some players might care about this to see all different outcomes /endins (it's pretty similar to the after-end in origins)

story telling - hmmmmmm not so happy with that one - you should really read the book (or at least the lore on dragonage wikia) before playing the game, cause the story reveals very slowly and not a lot before the end (or not at all) - so if i didn't read the lore i'd probably asked myself often ...and what am i doing right now?!

boss fights are more interesting, but i am sure you can make em even more interesting and different

the game is WAY too easy... when i played on normal - non of my characters ever died (except my mage 1 killed in friendly fire) and i breezed through everyboss without even using a lot of tactics... damn most of the situations my main char could kill all enemies by himself without any problems (10 at the time with the new skills) or my archer was killing everything before i even got close.. so you need to play at least on hard (if youre a beginner / casual gamer) or on nightmare if you want a little bit of challenge...
also, you find a lot of resistance gear that you dont need at all...
the game might also be too easy when you import and have access to all the best gear, maybe thats a problem...cause i had much more troble at the beginning starting with a new character

still no new gear or just a few bits (im especially talking about the ugly mage and rogue stuff)

its too short - can't wait to get the next one :-)

so thats it...

Thank you very much for the review Nemesis, I am excited to know what I have to look forward to. Any other amazing staves other than the +20 Spellpower one that you found?

Thanks again! B)

Thanks for the review, I avoided the other one because I was paranoid about spoilers... One question how are the new specs? any new ones that might become as popular as the AW? I'm particularily interested in getting your thoughts on the Spirit Warrior, Shadow and Keeper...

well as said i played very slowly, respeced about 20 times and spent several hours with runecrafting...i also played origins for 90 hours, most only have 30-40, so most will probably spend 15 hours in awakening

there are a lot of staffes and mage gear...

spirit warrior - great
shadow - great
keeper - great
:-)

Is it possible that the game was too easy because you continued with an Origins character, who should have superior gear (imported), stats (tomes and Dreaming sequence), and levels than the Orlesian Warden?

And yes, please review any of the new specializations and any talents that particularly stand out.

Just wanted to say thank you for the info you've provided on the expansion here and in the other thread - and for not spoiling the story! I love knowing about things like Talents and Skills ahead of time so I can plan my builds and such, but I don't want to know too much about the actual plot. I look forward to playing the game next weekend, since we don't get it until Thursday.

Is anyone *really* concerned that the thing that I have heard criticised the most by players is... the storyline?

That and the "continuing" elements that seem to have completely flown away...

as said yes...this does definitly play a role, at least in the beginning, but the party combination is also important - 2h warriors and archers are really strong, mages too with the new skils and the equipment (my mage does +200% spirit damage...)...dunno about melee rogues have only played a little bit at the beginning and it was rather hard...probably because you need to micro management so much...

Sounds good fun! Question, have you tried the console yet? I'm curious since I'm aiming at an Orlesian warden and am somewhat annoyed they will be so far behind from tomes and the fade sequence.

Thanks for your feedback, though its made me so hungry for the expac!

Nice review, appreciate the lack of spoilers.

Could you please tell me whether the US ending carries over?

Its pretty much the 'make or break' in me buying this game.

Might I be so bold to ask you how much time you needed for Origins? Because 33 hours was my split time with Origins on Hard (boss battles on Nightmare though)... 100% quests... no skipped dialogues AND read the entire codex (yes, I am fast, don't know how.... the one character is uploaded on this site under the name "Lya"...

Edit : nevermind checking it... it wasn't uploaded completely anyway, and the story progress is completely missing. So no proof, sorry...

Apologies if I have missed it, but are the new Awakening skills, talents, and specializations available in stock Origins, or are they Awakening-only?

i am not saying it is a weak story... the end boss fight / end in general is rather lame tough

it's just that if you didn't read the books there will be quite a knowledge gapp and lot of things just seem to have no connection to origins... moreover the story reveals itself just before the end, in the middle your just like öööm okay i need to find an kill darkspawn...

what annoys me the most honestly is that a lot of decisions in the game that seem to be important have no influence on the active game (as said can't say more) - but i can understand that, and as said, i prefer a 50 hour game with 1 outcome rather then a 10 hour game with 5 outcomes (japanese rpg's anyone?) but thats rather me...

skills are awakening only

well i dont want to give marks but if i had to i'd say

origins:
companions: 8/10
locations / lore: 7/10
story: 8/10

awakening:
companions 9/10
locations / lore: 8/10
story: 8/10 - the story itself is more interesting because it reveals more about the darkspawn and is not so 0815 lets go and kill that evil...on the other hand there is a know-how gap as said and some things seem to come out of nowwhere - so read the books!

my origin time was:
1pt: 90 hours
2pt: 30 hours

awakening is now 32 hours, but i spent at least 10 hours repsecing, crafting etc... im sure you can easily beat it in less then 15 hours, maybe 10 if youre fast
