do we really ever know who our enemies and who our friends are...?

maybe we should open a thread for sharing end-origins-savegames to try out different classes or so?

some decisions have a direct influence (if you help party a, you won't get quests from party B)

I find this the most interesting. Looks like they're going toward a faction system. Something you see in MMOs, not so much in single-player RPGs.

Of course, this creates an obvious replay opportunity, to see what quests you'd get if you had supported faction B instead of faction A.

(This is sort of what occurs in Orzammar with the Bhelen/Harrowmont choice, except that other than differentiating the initial quest to get their trust, the questline remains the same.

Faction system in single player RPGs brings up bad memories.

NWN2 had "faction" based quests (The Watch and The Criminals) :wizard:

What I am most curious about is if there was any kind of game / game engine update (call it a patch if you will) beyond the recently released 1.03 that came on the expansion game disc.

How was the overall performance of the game compared to Origins?

Were there any noticeable improvements?

Thank you for the spoiler free review! :-)

I would also like to know how the performance of the game faired compared to Origins. Did you ever have any technical issues in Origins that seemed to be fixed in Awakenings?

Well maybe when they were working on Awakening they kinda went low on money (they started making it right after finishing origins). They didn't have the feedback from Origins, nor the idea that it will be such a succes. So maybe that's why it is cut abruptly, and there is not save. I still think another expansion is coming as Victor posted a topic about suggestions and that date...This time they will have more money and they know this franchise is a huge hit.

As for the Arhictect :?Even in the book i found him quite intriguing. He was reading, he wanted to destroy the old gods...ok the part with tainting humanity wasn't his best idea but he seemed to be wanting good, in his own way..dunno how to say it.

Sounds like it is too short/easy. They probably did everything else right, but for the price....
Well I just may wait and get it after a price drop, or maybe used...

Edit: Oh, nemesis I have a question for you. Origins locked you out of getting a lot of cool gear, does Awakening do that too? Like the Disicple's armor and such- it looks fantastic, but usually if it looks cool they don't let you wear it...

well dont get to excited...fraction system is maybe a bit much said... there are just some quests that way...

maybe the next expansion will also start from origins...would make sense since at lvl 30 you got pretty much all skills and lvling gets boring.... i'd rather have the kind of expension where you need to restart at lvl 1 or so...more interesting

regarding performance - at the beginning it went smooth, but the further i went in the game and especially the longer i played within one sitting, the worste the performance got and the longer the loading times (i have a i7 920, 6ram, win7 64 and a ati 5870)

edit: regarding gear - i would love to have more cool darkspawn weaon and disciple as a team mate...but well... most gear you don't see on any of the party members you can't wear - altough in the vid of justice he is wearing an armor that is worn by a npc - i have no idea how to get that one tough...

Now THIS is what I'm concerned about. I'm a computer nerd head. My new laptop is almost like yours excpet my GFX is NVIDIA GTS 360 and I have i7-720QM.  I run the game currently in Very High/High settings. I might have to make adjustments if you are having performance issues.

Great spoiler-free review, Nemesis. Appreciate you taking the time out of your life to do this and answer our questions. Alas, I'm one of the people who couldn't make 1.03 play decently on their machine, so I guess I'll have to wait a while. But your comments have helped me plan the character I'm playing in DAO right now and his transition into Awakening!

Thanks again!

i agree to the expansion/level thing. since not everyone got awakening it would be fair for it to be like that. but for those who did, hmmm...

i really do hope another expansion is coming, to tie up the loose ends and really end the story. i always said i want "my calling" final quest. would be so emotional to go in the deep roads, to look back once more, maybe get a flashback then bye...

Thanks for the review, this helped much more than the other one that is up. Sounds good but still not doesn't sound like it is worth that very high price tag. I would waste the money if my Harley wasn't in the shop but 30 hours seems hard to squeeze out of it which isn't much for the very high cost & compared to Origins. Like I said before I'll probably wait for it to hit the $20 or less bin in a few months since we have a while (feb 2011) until the next Dragon Age installment.

This isn't fair because PC users will have a mod out in like a week for all these things- but console users get left in the dust. Why doesn't bioware just put these things in the game? It would solve a lot of the problems with mages and rogue gear as well- I mean I would love to put Disciple gear on a rogue.

Take a break your computer is overheating..  Shut the game off, better yet the computer.. for an hour or two and play again.

Actually it sounds like a memory leak. That's a software issue.

Good review, Nemesis.

I just have one question - how did you feel about the ending (without giving too much away, of course)? Specifically, was it satisfying, or did it feel abrupt or rushed?

So the expansion still suffers from memory leaks ?

well the story reveals just at the very end, before that you dont really know whats going on (if you dont read the books) - the ending feels a bith abrupt, you have a last challenge and after that bang finish - no movie or further explanations or anything... and the da story is not finished at all... i mean, you get the same kind of notes at the end as in da showing what will happen etc... but if there wasn't been an origins game, awakening would more feel like a prequel to another game (thats my expectation actually for da2...)
