Come on guys, be realistic.
Look at Oblivion and the shivering isles, there was hardly any tie between Cyrodiil and Shivering isles and that expansion was great.
I'm taking in all the reviews but i'm leaving my opinion unbiased, simply because i loved DA:O so much, i'm also completing it again before the 18th ^^
To be fair, the main selling point of the Elder Scrolls games was the sense of freedom and exploration, as opposed to character development and narrative. I mean, I like the series and all and I played through both Morrowind and Oblivion, and despite them both being
huge games, I never once felt really
attached to my own character, or felt that his relationships with other people in the world held any real meaning. So with those games you're not really losing too much if you go down that route.
Completely different for BioWare games, though - I might even go so far as to say that the single most important thing, consistently, has been character development. Given that they've built up this good cast of characters for DA:O, there's much more to lose here by jumping from one unconnected game to the next and not giving their stories some meaningful sense of closure.
