Maybe I'm just that good, but here's how mine went-

My first two playthroughs were on Normal.

My third? NG+ Insanity with a Level 30 Vanguard.

LONG. AND. AGONIZING.

Hardest parts?

Dual Scion/Husks fight on Horizon and the start of the Collector Trap.

As long as you can get past those, you're good to go. The rest is just knowing who to bring to take down enemies the fastest.

Miranda and Thane wrecked shop for me.

You can kill those Scion's before you go through the doors (bring Mordin and use his Fire power).  Just aim at a part (heavy pistol is best for acuracy) of their body sticking out from cover behind the relay tower.  They won't attack because you haven't gone through the door yet.  If you do this and kill them then the husks don't appear.

I did not know this. I'll try that out next time, thanks.

Also... I suggest you bring Grunt as well.  He's gone toe-to-toe with the scions and husks and come out on top every time I've had him in the party and went up against scions and husks.

Hmm, that is true. But if I can take them out beforehand, I don't think I need him. lol

With vanguards its even easier just shot gun and biotic charge them. And don't stand in the same place, always move about to give yourself some space and always use your squaddies' abilities against the husks too. Ofcourse keep your distance from the scions or go somewhere where they don't have a line of sight and you will be fine.

Yeah, that was what worked best for me, except the squadmates were usually dead within 10 seconds. I managed to clear out all the Husks more than once, actually, and then just somehow always ended up stuck in some kind of situation with the Scions immediately afterwards that I couldn't get out of (in between them with Charge cooling down and my shields gone, fun stuff like that) and got keeled. Eventually I just got fed up. And not that this is an excuse or anything, but it doesn't help that it's after Horizon that the game opens up, the rest of the recruitment missions, galaxy maps and loyalty quests become available and you can finally just do whatever you want for hours, so you just want to get Horizon over with. I'm back on Hardcore now and it's tons of fun, but the nagging voice in my head won't shut up about how I cheated, of course. *sigh*

Derelict Reaper and first part the fight just before the relay tower on Horizon.

If you do his loyalty mission before the collector ship ambush then he can even go toe-to-toe with Harbinger (as long as you have him up to rank 2 in fortification).... or rank 3 if you are using NG+ Insanity.  Best for him on NG+ Insanity is Rank 2 Concusive Shot, Rank 4 Squad Incendiary Ammo, Rank 4 Krogan Pureblood, and Rank 3 Fortification (turn squad power usage off and just continually spam fortification when it cools down).

Eh to the first, HAHAHAHA to the second. I Cained.

But the Derelict Reaper wasn't that bad. I brought Miranda and Thane, warped the HELL out of husks, and when it came to Scions, it was easy.

I just found places to lean behind, used the Collector Particle Beam, Dual Warps, and Handcannon Headshots.

As for retrieving the IFF, I didn't have ammo to Cain the core so I just ran around, charging husks and destroying them only to run away like a little girl, sprinting for mommy, until it recharged and I'd repeat.

Of course, charging the husks that were away from the other 16 or so. lol

Caining the core is fun... especially on NG+ Insanity.  It doesn't kill the husks so they are running around the cut scene meleeing shepard and crew (but nobody goes down when they are hit).

Tried going for it earlier.  Felt like a 9 year old boy at a NAMBLA convention.  No thanks.  Not up for that degree of abuse.  I salute those of you who pulled of a completion of this achievement.  Sheesh.  I'll go back to Veteren now, thanks!  haha.

I disagree with you OP.

I'm on my insanity play through right now and have to say that so far the difficulty has been over exaggerated greatly. Sure, I'm still yet to play some of the harder parts like the collector ship which was a big pain, even on hardcore. I just don't get how you can find it that hard.

Horizion wasn't even bad, I only died once. If your really having trouble why don't you jsut use the heavy weapons a bit more. If I'm ever in a tough spot (normally involving husks) I just whip out the flamer.

Jumped from normal to insanity. It's not so bad and some parts are dead easy when playing as an infiltrator, like the shutters on Omega, simply because you can fade out of sight. Husks = problems, though.

Hardest part for me was IFF and Horizon. Even with Grunt. I can only get swarmed by so many.... and the Widow only has so many shots..

Going to really go for abuse and play an adept next. Should be fun. Dunno if I'll play vanguard or not after that.. it really doesn't fit my play style at all.

Doesn't matter how much ammo your SR has. Use the SMG for Husks.

I found that the first three missions or so and any fight with a praetorian was difficult. After that I found it quite easy. Played as infiltrator so just hid behind cover, cloaked and sniped.

You need a lot of patience for Insanity alright.
And good anger management - to stop you from breaking the quickload button.
As mentioned by a lot - the Infiltrator felt really good on Insanity.
Never expected the Vanguard class to be so powerful and so enjoyable on
Insanity either.

Don't give up - once you get used to the intensity of it all it's hard to go back to sane difficulties!

Early in the game, -recruiting archangel especially- is hard for me. It's worth sticking to though, for the sheer fun when you make progress, and it does get alot easier.

Really? I always found praetorians push overs. Warp ammo + SMG kills the barrier, and incinerate finishes armor quickly, with a sniper shot here and there.

Don't think I died once when going up against a praetorian. Husks and scions however.. urgh.

With Soldier class and the widow it was quite easy.

Just Tali's loyalty gave me a little bit of trouble.

Scions are harder fights than the two Praetorians.

You can circle strafe cover in both Praetorian fights and either-

a. Never get hit

b. Barely get hit

c. Get proof you suck by dying

Ok, I tried insanity with an adept and there is just some orders of quests that wont work. I tried getting the Krogan first and when you enter the facility there are two fleeing mercs that pop around the corner and tear away your shield right away, if you don't run back, you're dead. You can't leave cover or your shield is instantly gone. Even using powers puts you at risk. If one Krogan get's to you, you're dead. If you or your men lack stopping power you are going to be overrun.

Strafe side to side at the bit of wall that juts out right above the ramp, and spam singularity.  Position your squadmates where they won't get shot down, but you can use their powers.

I just found it excessively annoying like it was in ME1.  Everything just has billions of hitpoints.  I played through on Hardcore once, it was pretty fun.  Then bumped up to insanity, and turned it back down after Freedom's Press.  Taking 5+ minutes to kill a single YMIR mech because each of it's defense bars is so absurdly long is just boring, not challenging.

I don't know if I could ever play a Vanguard - too risky for me. However, this is awesome in its own right:

Since shield-breaking attacks don't spill over into health, it seems that a low cooldown on Biotic Charge makes you invincible to slow -- but hard-hitting -- enemies.

Heh yeah I'm actually playing the game again as a Vanguard on insanity just to go toe to toe with that Colossus myself. Similar tactics to a sole Scion it seems watching the video, timing your charges. But I'm currently having problems killing two scions at the same time with a dozen husks after me however.

Vanguards compared to infiltrators/soldiers have to be played more aggressively I found though. Hence full understanding of the level is required. Don't want to charge at a bloke who seemingly looks alone only to find yourself surrounded by 5 enemies and no cover in the vicinity heh.

That part with the 2 Scion's is difficult but I found it works much better if you pull all the husks back aways to deal with them first then one Scion at a time.  This works well for me cause they are so slow.  Boy if they were not that would be a part I doubt I could get past on that high of a difficulty setting.

I just completet my Insanity playthrough today, and if you're still interested in getting to do it, I can give you some hints, on how to play, since you have to play insanity different than normal.

I played with an ME1-imported sentinel, because of the defensive power. It helped me. A lot.

If you play a badass renegade before and get morinth, you can choose dominate as additional skill, which also is very useful, but thats a matter of chioice, I guess.

Just know that every little bugger (except enemy tech drones) on insanity has a defense power like shield, barrier or armor, so you should choose your skills to be able to take down everything.

Place your squadmembers manually and plan your combat. When possible stay behind and let your enemies run into your fortified positions one by one if possible.

Make sure to disable automatic offensive Power use of your squadmates in the options. You'll need their powers at your command, and not when the AI thinks it may help.

There are fights that are really tricky and in the end you'll need some luck to get them done. The 2 Scions and their damn lot of Husks on Horizon for example. I was very short before shoving my keyboard through my window at that point, because you havent really evolved the powers you need to fight them efficiently. Take your time and try and try again. Occasionly you'll get it done.

Don't choose your squaddies after personal likes, choose them for their skills.

Bringing Jacob and Zaeed to Haestron (Talis recruiting mission) is not the best idea. Choose people with overload here (Garrus and Miranda work).

On The derelict reaper bring Samara and Thane. Especially if you have Warp and Throw.

With Warp (Thane) and Reave (Samara) maxed out, you can strip the Husks of their Armor with one Warp or Reave and feed them you fast regenerating throw. Within 3 seconds you defeat 2 Husks without fireing one shot this way, because they instantly die if you use throw on them.

Should you get swarmed by them while your squaddies are regenerating powers, dont hesitate to shoot your Carnifex (2 Shots strip the armor) or hit them in the face before tossing them to their death with throw.

Can a Scion reach you with its shockwave? Back off then. Kill their dumb husks and Abominations before fighting them. You need cover to fight Scions effectively, and with Husks around cover is a bad idea.

I hope I could help anyone who is desperate and suffering from Insanity like me in the beginning.

For Horizon, I take cover in the truckbed in the near-left corner, and station my squadmates there. I usually take Miranda and Garrus, equip Garrus with Vindicator and AP ammo to shred the armor off the husks. Singularity seems to keep the husks back even if they are armored, so that keeps them from swarming you.

Be patient till all the husks are dead. Then have everyone still alive target one of the scions. You may need to start moving around to avoid the shockwave, but strafing a few feet in either direction is enough

On my first attempt at insanity, I used a NG+ Vanguard from ME1 and got my butt repeatedly handed to me by those sicons on Horizon. I eventually gave up because I'm just not that much of a good Vanguard and decided to start over with a ME1 transfer as an Adept and that is going much easier. I haven't reached horizon with the Adept just yet but I know for sure that I will hate that fight. I plan on bringing Miranda for her Warp and either Jacob or Grunt for there incendiary ammo for the team and me using warp ammo.
