Who knows what's the fashion like 200 years later in the galatic scale? Why do they have to have the same mind like today's us? And why can't a girl wear heels in combat when her ankles are fully protected by mass effect field?

I'll add, who's to say it fits or not for sci-fi? Isn't Mass Effect all about being realistic? As I said above, I don't see anything that doesn't work here.

What's wrong with being hot if the technology allows?

Why can't FemShep be hot and wear high heels?

Samara has no reason to wear high heels. Looking hot is thew last thing she is concearned about.

That said, I am not against high heels. On the Normandy, when Shepars is in his casual "outfit". But when Sheaprd wears powered armor -- that is, in combat -- every squadmate must wear powered armor.

And don't tell me about "technology allows". No techonology will ever compesate for being "hot" in UV-irradiated vacuum.

I sense subjective view there. The culture of Justica is up for BioWare to create and they created it the way that it's ok for a justica to wear heels and I don't see anything so wrong so irritating about it. And how are you so sure that "No techonology will ever compesate for being "hot" in UV-irradiated vacuum"? I would say yes it does seem to work cuz that's what appears to be like in ME2. And again, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Yes, FemShep could wear heels imo, i donno, maybe they just forgot or ignored such a small thing. It's also no biggy without it, just like Miranda and Samara's heels.

I sense a japanese game fanboyism here.

A subjective view again.

If I were as subjective as you, I could say, "American rpg is all about anti-high heel".

But I'm not going to say that cuz I know that's not the case.

I don't mind the high heels all that much. Plus, I'm more concerned about not getting shot to death than worrying about what clothes my teammates are wearing.

I'm amazed so many people are bothered by this. Worse is that some appear to be very hostile about the subject. The stress levels must be amazing in some of you.

You can't use military standards as an argument, since none of them belong to a military, you can't say heels don't belong in sci-fi, go watch Star Trek. If Samara is not supposed to have heels because she's genderless, someone better go and remind her that she shouldn't have those ****** either, cause those are for a specific gender, one that usually wears heels as well.

But the most important thing, it's a game made by someone other than you, and there are going to be things you don't like. To get as hostile about it as some of you have seems to be an over reaction on your part. Then again it's your opinion, I won't be able to sway you no matter what I say.

But seriously, calling people fanboys cause they have a differing opinion than yours is a bit much, especially on something as trivial as high heels.

Raiden, in Metal Gear Solid 4 had on boots with a "high heel". He was male.

I don't get the viciousness on either side. So I find it ridculous and unrealistic. Alright that doesn't mean you have to jump down my throat going. "NYAH! THEY LOOK SEXY AND YOU SHOULD APPREICATE THAT!!!" Or "OTHER SCI-FI DO IT SO IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE!"

...though to be honest Jacob, Thane, Jack, Samara and Miranda are asking to be torn into pieces by an array of bullets. Even Garrus stays in busted armor. Seems like Grunt and Shep are the only sane ones around. =]

I was never fond of the heels, or the partial facemasks in vacuum. I preferred the full body suits as they just seemed more realistic options in hazerdous environments. I realize it's an artistic choice, but not one I agree with.

I admit when I saw the shoes my first thought was "What is she wearing? She's going to break an ankle in those shoes. And someone with her background should know better."

As a female player, I find all this a bit insulting. I mean it's not like Bioware goes out of it's way to give the male characters sex appeal.

there is a video on the bioware site "art of the game ?/5" and it sounded like they worked hard making sure that thane wasn't ugly. and  Wrex was male and he had A LOT of sex appeal

Haha Wrex
Is the sex

People like to have their Sci-Fi's to be at least somewhat realistic.

To have women (who are meant to be running around in firefights fighting cyborgs, aliens, mercenaries etc) in skin tight stripper outfits that give massive wedgies and camel toes and heels is simply stupid.

We are entitled to crtique.

Raiden was a super ninja. There were knives in there.

I don't think thats practical unless you're a superninja.

Samara is a Justicar, not a superninja.

Miranda is datass, not a superninja.

Word. High heels are stupid in even faux military setting.

Calling people fanboys over this is stupid.

And its not a matter of even military standards, it's common sense. Who the hell would do this stuff in high heels?

Besides Raiden.

EDIT: Wait, ****, Thane has them too?

... Crap, Thane is a ninja.

But he's not a superninja.

So therefore it still works.

Who says strong women can't be sexy? And, it's 170 years in the future. I'm pretty sure they can take a little creative license with the materials they use to make their clothing and make high heeled boots that were easy to maneuver in. I'm amazed that so many people think that modern day standards and science should be the baseline for how storytellers should incorporate technology.

I avoided making women Warriors in Dragon Age because they looked like skinny little boys in full Plate Armor like Wade's Dragonbone and Blood Dragon Armor. Mage and Rogue armor, to a lesser extent at least lets them keep their curves while still adding a respectable level of protection for the roles they were portraying.

If I wanted to de-feminize my characters I would of made a man in the first place.

And if I wanted my female characters to be overly sexed up, skin tight clothes wearing bits of fan service that I can't possibly take serious I'd play Bayonetta.

Because a game based on a modern society that has evolved 170 years and suspending your disbelief for a second that they could of made advancements in clothing durability and it's military applications is totally the same as a heavy stylized fantasy world that is meant to be over the top and ridiculous is completely comparable.

I do find high heels and skimpy armor in games to be unrealistic, but I've come to accept that, while game can have realistic tendencies, they're still not real, and therefore, characters will always be modeled with aesthetic value in mind before practicality. On the one hand, I didn't think that everyone wearing the same armor in ME1 wasn't very pretty. (Especially since there was little difference between armors, and the best armor was rarely the best looking). On the other hand, it is a bit ridiculous to see characters like Jack whose clothes clearly had no practicality, but suits their character perfectly. Design team seemed to go for aesthetics for ME2, which i prefer;I'd rather have uniquly designed, albiet somewhat unrealistic-given-the-circumstances characters over everyone wearing the same boring armor.
...I do agree that Bioware could be putting in more efforts into making more attractive male characters (Thane is a good start though), but coming from a girl whose taste in guys leans very much towards anime-style pretty boys, I doubt Bioware will ever cater to these tastes, unless it turns out that the majority of female Mass Effect players have similar tastes. then...they'll just have to bring more females on the design team to help out ;)Image IPBImage IPB

I think Samara is a bit more ridiculous than Miranda. Miranda's the "perfect woman." So it makes a LITTLE (emphasis) sense that she's showing off the goods, but Samara is some high horse code following Justicar and oh hey cleavage!

Which is funny since Grunt is really the only one who'd stand a ghost of a chance without proper armor. =P

Normally I would agree w/ OP, but look at it this way.  Samara's had 700 years plus experience running around in high heels. Practical or not, she's probably got it down pat. Miranda most likely has a "great balance" gene or something.  :P
