I never told anyone I was from New York in advance. I like to tell people as little as possible about myself. A few people made me based on my behavior. One woman said I did everything too fast, and asked if I was from New York. Another asked the same based on my appearance. To be honest those Californians that pointed it out were rather rude about it.
I have a somewhat similar experience...Since I'm pretty left-wing (See: very) and I live in Arizona, people tend to think that I am actually from California.

Well, Californians can't even figure out what we are. I think our population is schizophrenic.

It wasn't based on anything like that for me. It was usually silly stuff. One person thought I was black. I thought it was odd, because I'm olive skinned and fairly light at that. When I corrected her by revealing my nationality, she remarked that I didn't look hispanic... probably because I'm not mexican, and then asked me if I was from New York.
It was always something like that. The one time I revealed myself as a New Yorker was in a sociology class because the teacher wanted volunteers to point out the differences in regional accents. That turned out to be a bust though, as according to her I had no noticeable east accent.
So yeah, my experiences there were usually instigated by others...

Perhaps it is best if we go back to the old system of you send your child to a school/private school of your choice or you homeschool them yourself. And leave the goverment out of the loop.
It could be worse. We could start distributing textbooks like the ones in the middleast saying that Jews are a mixed breed of monkeys and pigs and that america is responsible for all sufering of the Muslim people. Allah be praised.
I think when we get to that point is when were in for a real s*** storm.

Just a few points.
1. The United States of America does not have a monopoly on stupidity or ignorance.
2. Please try not to be an ignorant douche and lump us all together.
3. Waffles are good.
So, yeah.

The way that things are going I'm sure the current admin would give the darkspawn and the reapers citizenship and then add a bill in the stimulus plan for there well being.

Can you believe this crap?! im from China and even i know Thomas
Jefferson was probably one of the most important person in USA history!
You cant just rewrite history like that.
Just one question, I know this is off topic but it does relate to governments censoring information, with you being from China have you heard about the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests?
Now back on topic here is a video showing the Texan education on the creation of the universe.

I have several examples in the back of my head, but one that comes to mind would be "Akira" that kinda drives the point home. But it's a central theme in that movie, so it might not count. I notice others, but I can't think of any atm, sorry.Amberyl Ravenclaw wrote...
Also, you mentioned "not forgiving the US"? Would you have any specific examples? Morbidly speaking, as an amateur historian I'm an avid consumer of cultural media materials that illustrate how people remember / memorialize / forget atrocities. I once watched a TV series about a woman who lived during the American firebombing of Tokyo, but that was a long time ago.

I feel sorry for the future children that have to learn from these books and then go on to college. Way to go, Texas SBOE, making college students fail history classes at a higher rate since your inception.Panderfringe wrote...

Maybe the suckiness smeck-kitteh alluded to is why there are so many death metal bands. Life there encourages the need for that brand of music, perhaps?
