I have started an Adept and I am not to keen on playing that class anymore. I was thinking along the lines of engineer, sentienel or Vanguard...

So? Its purpose is to get you close to the enemy and then hit him in the face with a shotgun blast. Charge is a very powerful ability.

It really depends what you are wanting from the playthrough. Caster sentinel and engineer play very similarly, while assault sentinel and vanguard play similarly. Decide if you'd prefer to get in the enemies faces or to dominate them from afar. The sticky vanguard thread by thisime8 has lots of good info, so does sabresandiago's vanguard thread, look through them and take away what you can. Darnalak has written a very good sentinel guide detailing both types, i think its called Sentinel - the turnip that will bleed for you. And i'm sure you're aware that average gatsby has lots of good info up about engineers. Have a look through them and see what you like the look/sound of. Personally, i'd recommend vg, i enjoy it more than any other class by a fair margin, but it's definitely not everyones cup of tea as it relies more heavily on twitch skills than any other class, and charge is a hard skill to master. You will also die more often as a vg than any other class, due to bad charges, unexpected spawns, charge bugs etc, but i still find it great fun.

The rifle is an all rounder fit for most of the situations. The second assault rifle you get is very accurate and thus deadly especially with the adrenaline rush (which basically slows time and allows you to pull off head shots easier.)
It always help to keep a sniper with an ammo power like incendiary on, in case you stumble upon heavy armor. I recommend the second one as it's semi automatic and that way you can make the most out of adrenaline rush, start it, look out of cover, and empty a whole sniper magazine in your enemy's head.
What I don't like with the soldier, is that you don't have the fun of unleashing some talents on your opponent, as there just aren't many active talents, most of them are ammo powers. Only acitve powers are adrenaline rush and concussive shot which I never found very interesting. And of course your bonus talent.

I honestly believe playing vanguard effectively on insanity is the most exciting and satisfying gaming experience i have had from a single player game. BW deserves awards for the creation of this class and its playstyle.
edit: I believe neo was commenting on warlord guys somewhat erroneous post. But you're right ollympian, vanguards are special;)

Don't play Vanguard! If you do then you will be ruined on any other class in the game. Save Vanguard for last.
Nah, I played through with a Soldier, then an Insanity Adept, then Insanity Vanguard, and then Insanity Sentinel. While I thought the Vanguard was absolutely awesome (!!!), I loved the Sentinel just as much if not more.
All I could think of when playing it was, "Man, the Sentinel is a can opener." Barrier or armor? Warp. Shields? Overload. No defense? Sub-Zero/Hadouken freeze attack followed by schwack attack. All the while you're protected by intense glowing armor that allows you to play extremely aggressively. I loved the Sentinel. Loved the Vanguard too, but both were great.

It's not just amazing, my friend. It simply NEVER GETS OLD. I suggest you check out the videos out there, I personally learned a lot from sinosleeps's video fighting blue suns while recruiting Grunt. That vid especially teaches timing the charge, and which enemy to hit. There's simply no way for them to fight back when you're ramming a pellet sandwich down their gullet 'n they're gettin the faceful o' lead specialOllympian wrote...
Yeah I take it all back, I have now got a level 5 vanguard and it is truly awesome, the whole shotgun charge deal is AMAZING!

Heavy Charge can spaltter husks in a single blow, while Area Charge often flings four or five enemies off a cliff at once. Then you turn on the survivors and opwn up with shotgun fire and haymkers. The Vanguard is a class that should give Shep bonuses when fighting drunk. He's just slamming into things and headbutting them to death.
I will admit though, after playing Vangaurd, twice, the playstyle was so ingrained that after switching gears to Sentinel, I see a lot more of Critical Mission Failure than I ever did before.

Haha, it's funny because it's true.
Every "What class should I be" thread gets ambushed by the Vanguard army.
