I have recently finished ME2 with the infiltrator and got her up to level 30. I am now looking for a new class for playthrough number 2. Any suggestions? Please post any good builds as well if you can.

I have started an Adept and I am not to keen on playing that class anymore. I was thinking along the lines of engineer, sentienel or Vanguard...

I do quite like them but the biotic charge does barely any damage

So? Its purpose is to get you close to the enemy and then hit him in the face with a shotgun blast. Charge is a very powerful ability.

Yeah, the point of Charge is to shift your position rapidly and to charge up your shields in the process. Damage dealing has little to nothing to do with it.

Vanguard is a weapon based class, not a power based class. like kronner and GC13 said, the point of charge is to get you into melee range, where all 8 pellets of the shotgun will hit, and you do double dmg due to being so close. That said, it can still be used to knock someone off the map just like throw.

It really depends what you are wanting from the playthrough. Caster sentinel and engineer play very similarly, while assault sentinel and vanguard play similarly. Decide if you'd prefer to get in the enemies faces or to dominate them from afar. The sticky vanguard thread by thisime8 has lots of good info, so does sabresandiago's vanguard thread, look through them and take away what you can. Darnalak has written a very good sentinel guide detailing both types, i think its called Sentinel - the turnip that will bleed for you. And i'm sure you're aware that average gatsby has lots of good info up about engineers. Have a look through them and see what you like the look/sound of. Personally, i'd recommend vg, i enjoy it more than any other class by a fair margin, but it's definitely not everyones cup of tea as it relies more heavily on twitch skills than any other class, and charge is a hard skill to master. You will also die more often as a vg than any other class, due to bad charges, unexpected spawns, charge bugs etc, but i still find it great fun.

Soldier is nice thanks to the flexibility, the assault rifle is fit for most situations, and you can always grab a shotgun, and use the sniper to deal with armored targets. At least that's how I handled my soldier. In the collector's ship, you can find the Revenant assault rifle, which isn't quite as accurate, but has a big ammo capacity (My memory tells me it's 80, although I'm not sure anymore...) so it will make short notice of anyone approaching i na nice metal storm. You can add on ammo powers to make it even more effective.

The rifle is an all rounder fit for most of the situations. The second assault rifle you get is very accurate and thus deadly especially with the adrenaline rush (which basically slows time and allows you to pull off head shots easier.)

It always help to keep a sniper with an ammo power like incendiary on, in case you stumble upon heavy armor. I recommend the second one as it's semi automatic and that way you can make the most out of adrenaline rush, start it, look out of cover, and empty a whole sniper magazine in your enemy's head.

What I don't like with the soldier, is that you don't have the fun of unleashing some talents on your opponent, as there just aren't many active talents, most of them are ammo powers. Only acitve powers are adrenaline rush and concussive shot which I never found very interesting. And of course your bonus talent.

I was torn between vanguard and adept for my 2nd play through. I ended up deciding on the adept as I believe it will be more versatile once I obtain the assault rifle from the collector ship ... from what you guys are saying, I might be missing out.

neo, i will again recommend anyone and everyone to give vanguard a try, it really is such an exciting class. It is the exact polar opposite of the adept though, so if you are particularly enjoying how the adept plays then you are unlikely to be comfortable with the hectic in-your-face approach to combat the vanguard takes, not saying it isn't possible, but opinions on the forum are generally polarised with vanguard and adept being at opposite ends of the spectrum. Both classes are very tactical, it just feels that the adept is more so because of its myriad of abilities, where vanguard charge is a one size fits all ability, in that the ability itself doesn't change, but the tactics behind its use do.

I honestly believe playing vanguard effectively on insanity is the most exciting and satisfying gaming experience i have had from a single player game. BW deserves awards for the creation of this class and its playstyle.

edit: I believe neo was commenting on warlord guys somewhat erroneous post. But you're right ollympian, vanguards are special;)

Don't play Vanguard! If you do then you will be ruined on any other class in the game. Save Vanguard for last.

Nah, I played through with a Soldier, then an Insanity Adept, then Insanity Vanguard, and then Insanity Sentinel.  While I thought the Vanguard was absolutely awesome (!!!), I loved the Sentinel just as much if not more.

All I could think of when playing it was, "Man, the Sentinel is a can opener."  Barrier or armor?  Warp.  Shields?  Overload.  No defense?  Sub-Zero/Hadouken freeze attack followed by schwack attack.  All the while you're protected by intense glowing armor that allows you to play extremely aggressively.  I loved the Sentinel.  Loved the Vanguard too, but both were great.

It's not just amazing, my friend. It simply NEVER GETS OLD. I suggest you check out the videos out there, I personally learned a lot from sinosleeps's video fighting blue suns while recruiting Grunt. That vid especially teaches timing the charge, and which enemy to hit. There's simply no way for them to fight back when you're ramming a pellet sandwich down their gullet 'n they're gettin the faceful o'  lead special

Heavy Charge can spaltter husks in a single blow, while Area Charge often flings four or five enemies off a cliff at once.  Then you turn on the survivors and opwn up with shotgun fire and haymkers.  The Vanguard is a class that should give Shep bonuses when fighting drunk.  He's just slamming into things and headbutting them to death.

I will admit though, after playing Vangaurd, twice, the playstyle was so ingrained that after switching gears to Sentinel, I see a lot more of Critical Mission Failure than I ever did before.  :)

Haha, it's funny because it's true.

Every "What class should I be" thread gets ambushed by the Vanguard army. :bandit:

I had the same question a few days ago and then the same answer :D From infiltrator to vanguard, on insanity (no other difficulty worth playing), WOW it's like I am playing a completely different game. As Infiltrator, I just let my squadmates do whatever they wanted while I was lining widow shots. Now I had to learn how to play with automatic power casting off and actually know the battlefield. As infiltrator I only checked if anybody is getting too close, now I have to pay attention where everybody is and plan my attacks. After just a few hours as vanguard I feel like I know the game better than ever.

And the adrenaline rush is awesome.

I enjoy using biotic charge on charging Krogan. It's like a "two unstoppable forces" moment. I half expected the screen the explode.
