I remember reading a preview somewhere that said one of our companions betrays us somewhere along the way in Awakening. I may be mixing this up with some other game, but if true it may not be such a good idea to show Nathaniel mercy.
Side note: Still no new leather armour models it seems. The trailer just shows him in the usual chainmail.
Same in Origins, Leliana can go ape **** on you if you mess with Andraste's Ashes as well as Wynne, Zevran can turn on you and side with Talissen, Shale will try to squish your skull if you side with Branka, and if you bring Sten along with you to Haven he will try to take command and, if you dont persuade him otherwise, he will fight to kill you.
Bring on the back stabs baby!

I wonder if Thomas will be around too. Apparently he had a crush on my female Cousland.

I can't wait to see how much flak my HN PC has to wade through when I party with Velanna and Howe, they both will hate his guts, and want to see him dead, it will be interesting to uh, change their minds about me.

He is already dead, I will not even considering him on my party, for several reasons. Gameplay aside, this is personal, and you may even call this a Howeicide, the total death of the entire Howe Family.
Oh come on, everyone knows that Howes family wasnt involved in his actions its even mentioned in the first game. When you save the Dragons Peak Arl's son in Howes dungean you have to go to his father in the Gnawed Noble Tavern to get your reward. He will then go on to vehemently say "I would lead troops against Thomas (Rendon Howes son) but my son has told me he had no part in his fathers crime."
You hear that? A guy who was tortured beyond healing (or so it is metioned) had enough restraint to say as much to his father. Now doesnt that say something to you? That maybe you should forgive Rendons family of the mans crimes?
It is a personal choice, all of us played our Couslands differently. I played mine as a sort of "Punisher" character, with a Realpolitik mindset. Forgiving Loghain and marrying Anora for the Ferelden crown and pushing Alistair into the cold as a drunk derelict was part of this. Extingushing the Howe bloodline, is part of the new Cousland power project in promoting it as a new powerful alternative, also including the Grey Wardens under the umbrella.
I also backed up King Behlen, for many of the same reasons, but blocked crazy Branka. Reducing the amount of blood magic in the land is also a part of this. This is why Branka, Jowan and a few others, especially blood mages, such as the Tevinter slavers, were all cleansed from the lands. I supported the Elves against the werewolves, turning them into humans, and made the Andraste Temple a new religious center in the world (thus placing Ferelden as the new holy land for a grander scheme of things), by killing the High Dragon and backing Brother Genitivi.
I let the Templars rule the Magic Circle with fear, with Cullen as their new leader.
Even though I married Anora, I impregnated Morrigan with another witch dragon daughter who headed west across the Frostback mountains (I guess that is what I did, but procreation counts for something, Pro-Life and all that), and kept Leliana as a mistress on the side in Denerim.
I kept Oghren as a military advisor in court, which fits him being a companion.
Sten is a sort of friend that is good for my PR moves towards Par Vollen, as I conditioned the relations with him.
He speaks highly of this Cousland.
With the circle in ruins, I kept Wynne as a magic court advisor.
Zevran remains in Denerim as a friend, where I back him up against the Crows. He suggests the Crows can "bring it on" as I will
be there to deal with them. Wonder if Awakening allows this to happen in a Cameo.
The Alienage is retained with a Ghetto with a few more liberties, but in general kept in check, with a few riots later.
Arl Eamon
returns to Redcliffe and restores it to its former glory, as Alistair leaves Ferelden for the bars.
Bella was put in charge of the tavern during the first Redcliffe fight, and renamed the inn The Grey Warden's Rest and tell stories of your adventures
for years to come.
I killed off Connor, the son of Arl Eamon, simply because I did not like him, and the Succubus was just collateral to this execution. He may have been a prodigal child and all that, but with his prehistory (like those childmurders in the UK), I saw no other recourse than a terminal solution. I was not willing to risk the lives of innocents in the fade or for suicides. Maybe Connor could be relegated from guild by some Freudian twist, but in this game I had to let him go. The replacement, the new daughter Rowan, was set up to a better start by being sent to the Circle.
This was the price Eamon had to pay by not raising his son the right way. The pyres of victims on the lake was another story in this, as these had no choice with their folks.
Anora wedded me ; and we established many trade contracts
with surrounding countries, and together began what could be a new golden
age for Ferelden. (We will see if plot twists tell otherwise). Even though
the horde of darkspawn were dispersed after the Archdemon's defeat, the
strongest among them reorganized into roving war bands, preying upon the
land and each other. Some even make it as far as Orlais before they are
eventually defeated (albeit with great difficulty).
Loghain was conscripted and survived the final battle, then became a major recruiter
for the Grey Wardens before eventually venturing into the Deep Roads to die
fighting the darkspawn. This gave me leverage towards Anora, in this dual monarchy, as I could always press via Loghain to impose the Grey Warden agenda.
I sided with Bhelen for the right wing capitalist dictatorship Orzammar became. Traditions had to go in order to increase the lands down to the Dead Trenches as well as making them a valuable ally to Ferelden, one I could interact with. Without the Golems, that was a good call I think, as a sort of Dwarven Marshall Plan. The Dwarven chantry was wrecked, which was a bad side effect I did not anticipate. I will see how I will deal with the Chantry. An exalted march is not priority.I killed off Dagnas ambition for the Magic Circle, not because of gender and race, but because I saw no need for her to go there, she should be in her place.
This game is all about choice, so I bet no Cousland story is the same. This is what makes this game great, and peoples moralizing voices fall to death ears, here each player is judge, jury and executioner.
This absence of worldly moral correction and condemnation, which confronts people daily, is one of the great benefits with this epic, fantastic and classical dark fantasy game. A freehaven for dark ideas about the world

Why so much hate for the Howes? It's not like they killed your family. Oh, wait.

Ok, I was just putting it out there that there was an ingame mention of the innocense of Howes family. No more no less; I had actually forgotten to go to the Gnawed Noble Tavern on my first 2 playthroughs - so I accidentally left that one templar to rot in the prison....
whoops

Oh, pity. One less possible companion choice for me.
As soon as I see him, I'll gladly put him out of his misery for what his family did to mine.

Nice. My Cousland will recruit him. Think Genevieve and Duncan. There is more than one way to punish someone, and sometimes death is too quick.
