Hey,
before the question comes up: yes, I do have an original retail copy + CD Key (registered with BW on this page).

That said, I have a laptop without an DVD ROM. I want to play ME1 again and tried to register it with the EA Download Manager, so I could have DLed it...but didn't work.
So, I could borrow an external DVD ROM for the notebook, install ME1 BUT - do I have to put in the DVD to run the game? That would be a problem.
Now, ME1 comes with the fishy DRM thing, so I thought maybe installing + CD Key is enough if it does the online registration thing?

So do I need the DVD to be able to play ME1?
And no, I don't wanna use a crack

So long as you activate it on-line you aren't supposed to need the DVD anymore. So I think your plan should work.
